  • Work with the Dean of Social Sciences to develop and implement strategies and tactics
to raise the profile of the Social Sciences and Mount Allison University with a wide rangeof audiences.
  • Generate published material on the Social Sciences and individual department, including
but not limited to news releases, articles for the university alumni magazine, brochures,event materials, email newsletters, advertisements, and websites. This requires, but isnot limited to, conducting research and interviews, writing, hiring photographers, settingup photo shoots, and working with graphic designers.
  • Provide support as needed with proofreading news releases, papers, books
manuscripts, and grant proposals for faculty.
  • Monitor media and news coverage and distribute to appropriate personnel.

  • Manage, develop, and design departmental and Social Sciences websites.
  • Review and vet Social Sciences recruitment materials, such as webpages, department
fact sheets.Administration
  • Assist the Dean, Director and Heads with strategic planning and organizational research
into enrolment and other trends. Includes help with program design, gatheringdepartment data, and preparing departmental self-studies for external reviews andresponses to same.
  • Assist occasionally with special projects, including the development of agreements with
industry, government, granting agencies, and other external partners, as well as thedevelopment of grant applications and financial plans for special funding projects, onbehalf of the Dean.
  • Represent the University at external meetings with government agencies and other
potential funders, on request.
  • Assist with arranging interviews for applicants for faculty positions and help arrange
visits and schedules for guest speakers.
  • Assist the Department Head/Dean with the orientation of potential and new faculty to the
Faculty of Social Sciences and the University.
  • Coordinate departmental scholarships, awards, and bursaries for the Ron Joyce Centre
for Business Studies.
  • Manage events such as conferences, seminars, guest speakers, and workshops.
Includes the supervision of the work of others, maintaining records, monitoring andadministering operating funds or accounts, and coordinating arrangements and ensuringthe smooth functioning of these events.
  • Assist the Dean, Director and Heads with budget proposals and staffing plans, on
request.
  • Respond to any other administrative needs of the Faculty of Social Sciences, at the
direction of the Dean.Academic Advising
  • Address student enquiries of a general nature and interpret University policies (e.g., as
to waitlists).
  • Refer students to appropriate support services personnel for assistance.
  • Assess program guidance needs of students and help with student advising, as
requested by departments, and with the approval of the Dean of Social Sciences if therequest is for ongoing assistance.B. Qualifications
  • Minimum of university degree along with 1 to 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Competency in Microsoft office 365 suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), familiarity
with research methods and analysis are required
  • Strong organizational and analytics skills
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative in developing opportunities for
the Faculty of Social Sciences
  • Experience in an academic setting is an asset.
