Job Description

Position descriptionReporting to the Network Manager, Computing Services and collaborating with Faculty, the Educational Technology Technician provides guidance to faculty on integrating instructional technology into their teaching. This person manages and assists faculty, staff, and students with the University’s Learning Management System (LMS), and may also provide advice on how to implement effective instructional and communication strategies using technology.Primary Position Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain the University’s Learning Management System; this includes, but is not limited to, the following:
  • managing user accounts and course spaces through automated interfaces with other University systems;
  • maintaining course content - copying, backing up and adding content to courses;
  • managing the organization of courses, disciplines and categories;
  • performing system trouble-shooting and system and security updates;
  • responding to inquiries from administrative staff, students and faculty related to the use and application of the LMS;
  • working closely with other Computing Services staff to ensure the reliability and integrity of the LMS.
  • Communicate regularly with faculty to ensure that the information, activities and content posted on the University’s LMS are complete and up-to-date.
  • Advising and assisting faculty with their use of Moodle.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications/skills
  • A Bachelor’s degree, or College diploma plus successful experience, in a related field.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Learning Management, Content Management, or Document Management systems, including familiarity with system administration tasks and procedures.
  • Proven ability to provide guidance to both novice and experienced users on a wide range of technologies.
  • Diplomatic and supportive interpersonal skills that help build confidence with novice technology users or others requiring assistance.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Commitment to superior client service; includes ability to prioritize requests for service while being responsive to needs.
  • Ability to work on many projects simultaneously while managing priorities effectively.
  • Integrity and proven ability to work in confidential contexts.
  • Demonstrated competence with MS Office Suite.
  • Familiarity with Moodle or similar Learning Management Systems preferred.
  • Willingness to work occasionally outside normal business hours.
