Position descriptionWe invite applications for an English Academic Bridging (EAB) Program Teacher. The EAB Program is designed to support academically-qualified students from non-English backgrounds in their transition to full-time study at Mount Allison. The EAB Program features a blend of pre-selected Mount Allison credit courses (taught by Mount Allison faculty) and accompanying non-credit EAB courses (taught by EAB staff). Students will transition from the EAB Program to full-time, unconditional study once they have successfully completed the EAB program requirements, ordinarily after one or two academic terms. To be eligible for the EAB Program, students must satisfy Mount Allison’s academic requirements for admission and demonstrate an English proficiency level equivalent to an IELTS test score of 6.0 or an iBT test score of 79.Reporting to the Manager, International Pathway Programs, the EAB Program Teacher will be responsible for delivering two EAB classes during the Winter 2022 Term. One class will focus on building Academic English proficiency. The other class will focus on Academic Skills development. Each class is 3 hours per week for a total of 6 hours/week in classroom contact time. The Teacher will be responsible for preparing program curriculum, lessons, grading assignments, and assessing students’ progress in the program. Curriculum and lessons may have to be adapted for in-person and online delivery.The successful candidate will have a master’s degree, or equivalent experience, in English, Education, Linguistics, TESOL, or EAL teaching/learning. In addition, experience as a Bridging Program instructor with EAL teaching experience is required. Experience working with EAL students in a university setting and within a diverse student population is an asset. They will also have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.This assignment will run from January 3, 2022 to April 22, 2022.
