Position descriptionLocationAll campus buildings and propertyRate of pay$21.94Nature of workUnder the direction of the campus services supervisor, this position performs work as a member of the grounds crew.A grounds crew must be able to follow instructions, to consistently perform manual tasks safely and efficiently and have the physical conditioning and ability to perform the duties of the position. They must also be well organized, properly plan work duties and processes, work independently for extended periods, and demonstrate the ability to co-operatively work with supervisors, faculty, students, and co-workers.They must also be able to work safely with power tools and equipment common to the horticultural/landscaping trade and be able to work from heights.Position responsibilitiesMaintain campus grounds through the operation of hand tools and industrial equipment related to year-round grounds maintenance. This includes:Mowing, planting, line trimming, raking, removing small trees, limbs, and other organic waste and general campus lawn maintenanceInstalling and maintaining signs, benches, garbage cans, bike racks, and other hard featuresClearing snow and de-icing campus roadways, parking lots, driveways, sidewalks, walkways, steps, entryways, etc.; performing such tasks with a snow blower or shovel, spreading ice melter by hand or push-spreader, lifting heavy bags or buckets of ice melter into the back of a pickup truck, etc.Maintenance of sports fields including irrigation repair, top dressing, line painting, overseeding, aerating, fertilization and spray applications and filling out maintenance records.Operate landscape equipment including, but not limited to: pick-up trucks, tractors, mowers, small engine equipment, etc.Move furniture, freight, and equipment, up to 75lbs.Perform inspection and routine maintenance of vehicles and grounds shop equipment.Perform other related duties as directed or assigned.Qualifications/skillsLandscape Horticulturist Journeyman, Bachelor of Technology in Environmental Horticulture, or Diploma (three-year) in Landscape Horticulture or Environmental HorticultureProof of valid provincial driver’s licenceProof of valid criminal record check (CRC) and vulnerable sector checks (VSC)To work as expected and in co-operation with administrators, faculty, students, co-workers, and other staffStrong interpersonal and communication skills, including fluency in English; integrity, dependability, tact and diplomacy are essentialAbility to maintain the level of physical conditioning required to perform dutiesAbility to operate tools and equipment common to the tradeProficiency with computer and cellphone technology and the Microsoft Office applicationsDemonstrated use of CSA-approved safety equipment and ability to perform tasks related to assignments safely and efficientlyDemonstrated professionalism and ability to recognize and deal effectively with custodial problemsTo applyIf you are interested in the challenges and opportunities that this position has to offer, please forward your application on or before Monday, July 27, 2021 to:Department of Human ResourcesMount Allison UniversityCentennial Hall, third floor65 York St.Sackville, NB E4L 1E4Fax: (506) 364-2385hr@mta.ca
