MOUNT ALLISON UNIVERSITYPosition PostingPosition Title: International Recruitment and Position # 3105Admissions CounsellorDepartment: Registrar’s Office – Admissions & Classification: MASA 9RecruitmentSupervisor’s Title: Manager, International Recruitment Posting Date: May 28, 2021and AdmissionsPosition Summary:Reporting to the Manager, International Recruitment and Admissions (MIRA), the InternationalRecruitment & Admissions Counsellor represents the University to prospective students,parents, guidance counsellors, and other influencers, with a focus on international recruitmentand admissions.The incumbent serves as an integral part of the international recruitment and admissions team,guiding prospective students through every stage of the recruitment and admission cycle, fromthe moment of discovery to the moment the prospective student becomes a current student.The incumbent counsels students on the recruitment and admissions process and theUniversity in general, delivers regular presentations, assesses students for admission to theUniversity and for entrance scholarships, prepares related reports, and assists with associatedprograms and materials.The incumbent is required to possess comprehensive knowledge and understanding ofinternational educational systems, English language proficiency testing standards, a generalunderstanding of Canadian study permit processes, as well as issues related to detection ofdocumentation fraud.The incumbent works an irregular schedule to accommodate the schedules of prospectivestudents located in diverse locations around the world, including evenings, overnights, andweekends. Extensive travel - physical and virtual - is required.

Please forward resumes to hr@mta.ca.Position DescriptionA. ResponsibilitiesRecruitment of International Applicants to Undergraduate Programs
  • Plan and execute international recruitment activities to increase the number of qualified,
diverse applicants and registrants in Mount Allison’s degree programs;
  • Remain current with developing trends and initiatives in strategic enrolment and
international market research;
  • Implement specific international market development strategies;
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of all Mount Allison programs, admission requirements,
and other relevant information to effectively represent the University internationally;
  • Keep abreast of admission requirements and programs across faculties and degree
programs, including changes to degree requirements, academic and other universityregulations;
  • Contribute to the development and updating of international recruitment materials;
  • Provide training to other recruitment staff on international educational systems and
admission requirements;
  • Produce recruitment plans and itineraries as well as reports on specific recruitment activities
conducted;
  • Respond to inquiries providing in-depth knowledge of admission policies and practices, as
well as a general working knowledge of academic, co-curricular, and extra-curricularprograms, current events and issues.Assessment of Applications to Undergraduate Programs
  • Monitor and encourage the progression of prospective students’ applications until they are
enrolled as students;
  • Advise prospective students and school guidance counsellors on the university application
process and international admission requirements;
  • Evaluate international applicants’ academic credentials and eligibility for admission to the
university, ensuring that applicants are assessed promptly and accurately, and providespecific feedback as required to applicants who do not qualify for admission;
  • Review language requirements for international admission purposes with an aim of ensuring
academic success for prospective students
  • Coordinate with MIRA and other university departments (such as International Office) to
advise students on appropriate language support/pathway programs;
  • Update and maintain accurate data for admissions decisions;
  • Ensure that the University’s international admission letters contain appropriate country-
specific information related to education and visa requirements;
  • Assess admissions trends for specific international markets;
  • Regularly review educational systems, proposed and enacted changes in secondary and
post-secondary education across Canada, the United States and internationally, maintainfamiliarity with curriculum and grading systems in other universities and colleges.
  • Provide training to other admissions staff on international admission requirements and
education systems;
  • Deal with situations where applicants are believed to have submitted false information or
documents and train other recruitment and admission staff on document fraud detection;
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in admissions processes and data management.
Other
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in international recruitment and partnerships;
  • In consultation with the MIRA and Admission Counselor – Student Information Systems,
build and maintain relationships with key international partners, agents, and schools ininternational markets through regular in-person, phone, and electronic communication toensure that Mount Allison achieves and maintains preferred partner status;
  • Assist MIRA and act as a backup to serve as Mount Allison’s representative for agents,
ministry and government officials, English language training partners, internationaleducators, parents, and prospective students;
  • Support delivery of education and training across Agent and Feeder networks as assigned;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
B. QualificationsRequired
  • A university degree with preference given to graduates of Mount Allison;
  • Ability to work effectively as an integral part of a team
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and strong intercultural sensitivity and
cross-cultural communication skills;
  • Ability to cultivate and build lasting professional relationships and networks;
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills within the framework of University policy;
  • Ability to assess student fit for Mount Allison and advise accordingly;
  • Strong listening skills, patience, and professional customer service with an ability to analyze
problems and find potential solutions;
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative, work well independently and with others while showing good
judgement;
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and function at a high level with minimal
direct supervision.
  • Excellent organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills;
  • Polished presentation skills and strong technical/multimedia skills;
  • Proficiency with computer applications in Microsoft Office, E-mail, presentation software,
and a familiarity with student information systems (experience with Ellucian Recruiter andColleague preferred);
  • Ability to work flexible, irregular hours including weekends, and ability and willingness to
travel extensively, both physically and virtually;
  • A valid driver’s license and a valid passport.
Recommended
  • A minimum of at least two years of experience in a post-secondary environment in
admissions, public relations, marketing, or other related field developing and implementingstrategy, conducting market research, making presentations, successfully promotingservices;
  • A minimum of one to two years of professional experience with and detailed knowledge of
Canadian and American education systems, as well as a range of international systems,including familiarity with curriculum and grading systems in other universities and colleges;
  • First-hand experience at Mount Allison as a current or former member of the university
community and a positive high-energy approach to sharing that experience with others;
  • Regulated International Student Immigration Advisor (RISIA) designation;
  • Knowledge of University student recruitment and admissions procedures and CRM/student
systems;
  • Experience with international travel for professional purposes;
  • Ability to communicate in both official languages; ability to communicate in other languages
would be an asset.
