Your Opportunity:Alberta Health Services (AHS) has an exciting opportunity for a Biobanking and Biosample Lead (Bioresource Advisor) to join Alberta #39;s Tomorrow Project (ATP; www.myatp.ca). Established in 2000, ATP is a research platform to advance understanding about canceramp; chronic disease. ATP works with the health research community in research institutes, health services organizations, and industry partners across Canada. ATP is also a member of CanPath (www.canpath.ca), a coalition of similar studies across Canada. In this role, you will provide leadership and the appropriate stewardship of existing biosamples for ATP. Reporting to the Research Operations Lead, you will oversee, design, and direct protocols for provision of biosamples for approved research projects. You will work iteratively with researchers to interpret their biosample needs and support the development of contracts for projects involving biosample analysis through appropriate engagement with researchers, the Alberta Cancer Research Biobank (ACRB), ATP and CanPath. In addition to this, you will work collaboratively with ACRB on biobank management and maintenance and maintain the reputation of ATP as a collaborative unit within Cancer Research and Analytics (CR amp;A), Cancer Care Alberta (CCA), and AHS and with CanPath. You will also supervise the ATP Lab Team including the Lab Lead and Lab Assistants who execute biosample protocols (e.g., collection, processing, plating, shipping and storage). To be successful in this role, you will need to have strong communication and organizational skills as you will collaborate with a range of project stakeholders. Importantly, you will bring the ability to lead, manage teams and work independently. The successful candidate will be set up for success with a supportive mentorship and training plan.Description:Reporting to the Research Operations Lead, you will oversee, design, and direct protocols for provision of biosamples for approved research projects. You will supervise and mentor Lab team - Lab Lead and Lab Assistants who execute all biosample protocols (e.g. collection, processing, plating, shipping and storage) while providing broad leadership and support to ATP. As the biosample resource expert, you will retain knowledge of the full collection of the ATP biosample collection as it evolves and manage the collection appropriately. Work with researchers to interpret their biosample needs. Support the development of contracts for projects involving biosample analysis through appropriate stakeholder engagement (e.g. researchers and ACRB). Collaborate with ATP research and operations teams on study design and approval of research applications. Design, manage and direct protocols for provision of biosamples for approved research projects within ATP and CanPath. Work in collaboration with the ACRB on biobank management and maintenance. Work closely with the ATP data team to manage biobank freezers and biosample inventory. Identify, develop and foster strategic scientific relations with ATP stakeholders, provincially/nationally/internationally, and continually seek ways to improve stakeholder engagement within ATP, Cancer Care Alberta (CCA) and AHS. Represent ATP on CanPath #39;s Biosample Standing Committee, providing ATP-specific biobanking knowledge as well as supporting the review of CanPath biosample access requests. Maintain the reputation of ATP as a collaborative unit within Cancer Research and Analytics (CR amp;A), and AHS and with CanPath.
