Providing career growth to our own employees is critical to our ongoing success--take charge of your career goals and empower your future!Job Summary:The Retail Operations Specialist supports critical processes in the customer lifecycle to ensure timely and accurate delivery of invoices in the regulated and deregulated Canadian (Alberta) electricity and natural gas market in the NRG Home organization. Key processes include managing exception processing for failed transactions, billing, invoicing, print, and QA for key validation points and compliance.Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Acquire a thorough understanding of the electricity and gas lifecycles from contract initiation to fulfillment and final account processing
  • Understand and comply with Alberta Utility Commission rules for the regulated and deregulated Canadian (Alberta) electricity and natural gas market
  • Resolve transaction, billing, invoicing, and print exceptions and / or validations within established SLAs
  • Ability to translate work into formats, such as Excel, as required for analysis
  • Identify issues using reporting methods to maintain compliance with internalamp; external SLAs around transaction and billing accuracies and timeliness
  • Resolve issues in a timely manner or escalate as appropriate
  • Reconcile and Resolve Interim System Statuses for System Documents
  • Execute QA for Accuracy and Compliance
  • Maintain Working Knowledge of Bill Presentation for all NRG Affiliates
  • Assist with root-cause analysis to identify solutions to exceptions, errors, and process gaps
  • Provide training as needed for internal and interdepartmental personnel
  • Maintain Billing Timeliness and Accuracy
  • Adhere to all Compliance, Applicable Laws, and Customer Protection Rules
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Working Conditions:
  • Remote position with most of the work performed on a personal computer in a seated position. Remote work is subject to change
  • Frequent use of computers, i.e. typing on keyboards, viewing monitors, etc.
  • Fast paced office environment with high volume workload
  • Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand
  • Minimal domestic travel may be required
Minimum Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 2-4 years Operations or Back Office related experience
  • Prior experience in the regulated and deregulated Canadian (Alberta) electricity and natural gas market is preferred
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Tools: Word, Access, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook
Preferred Qualificiations:
  • General SAP CCS Billingamp; Invoicing Skills a Plus
  • Working knowledge of deregulated energy market
  • Previous energy/utility industry experience preferred
  • Ability to Understand Complex System Functionality
  • Ability to Recognize Opportunities for Continuous Improvement

  • Ability to solve complex problems
  • Attention to detail and ability to multi-task in fast paced environment
  • Capable of working independently
  • Effective oral and written communication skills with ability to discuss findings and recommendations in a succinct manner
  • Ability to collaborate and interact professionally with internal teams, management, external vendors, and utilities to acquire knowledge, resolve issues, and participate in projects
Physical Requirements:
  • Work is primarily sedentary (desk work at a computer)
  • Remote position with occasional in office days. Remote work is subject to change
  • Some overtime required as special projects arise
  • Reliable home internet required
