Job Description

Candidate Specification

  • Bachelor #39;s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field. Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation preferred.
  • Proven experience in roadway, bridge, or railway construction projects, with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in the development of construction details and specifications, or engineering construction supervision.
  • Strong knowledge of construction principles, techniques, and best practices, particularly in the field of roadway and bridge construction.
  • Proficient in interpreting construction plans, specifications, and engineering drawings.
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines effectively.
  • Solid understanding of Alberta safety guidelines and regulations and a commitment to developing and maintaining a safety culture
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized, with the ability to maintain accurate records and documentation
  • Proficient in using construction management software and tools
  • Willingness to work on-site and travel to project location as required
Mott MacDonald Canada is currently involved in several major infrastructure projects across Canada. We are currently seeking a civil engineer with extensive construction-related experience to complement our team and support a transformative roadway and bridge construction project in Calgary. As a Site Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the construction activities, ensuring adherence to specifications, maintaining project quality and safety standards, and representing the interests of the Owner in site engineering efforts.As part of Mott MacDonald, you will have the opportunity to work for major infrastructure clients across Canada. This position begins with a Calgary-based project but in the long term offers opportunities to work on projects across Canada and around the world with colleagues from various backgrounds, tapping into the expertise of our global practices.Responsibilities:
  • Manage and supervise all aspects of the roadway and bridge construction project, from inception to completion, while ensuring compliance with project plans, specifications, and regulations.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to contractors and construction teams, addressing any technical issues and facilitating problem-solving.
  • Conduct regular inspections to monitor construction progress, quality, and safety, and maintain accurate documentation of site activities and project records.
  • Collaborate closely with project stakeholders, including contractors, architects, engineers, and government agencies, to ensure effective communication and coordination.
  • Review and evaluate contractor submittals, change orders, and construction schedules, and make recommendations as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, and regulations, and work towards achieving project objectives within established timelines and budgets.
  • Coordinate with project managers to monitor project performance, identify potential risks, and implement appropriate corrective actions.
  • Provide regular progress reports and updates to the project team and management, highlighting key achievements, challenges, and upcoming milestones.
  • Foster a culture of safety on the construction site, promoting best practices and ensuring compliance with safety protocols and regulations.
