Job Description

Headquartered in Calgary, AB, we currently operate in nine provinces and two territories, managing over 14,600 multi-residential units, 1.25 million sq. feet of commercial space, and 200 executive suites. We are proud to live, work, and play in the neighborhoods we serve, next to our residents, hotel guests and commercial tenants.We are looking for a Controller, Corporate to join our Corporate Finance team in Calgary, AB. Reporting to the Executive Director, Finance, you will play a pivotal role in the financial management and strategic decision-making process of Northview. This position is responsible for overseeing financial management including day-to-day oversight of corporate accounting and accounts payable, external financial reporting, internal management reporting, treasury management, internal control policies and procedures, tax compliance.The key to the success of this role is providing leadership and guidance to the teams and collaborating with all departments and executive teams to support the business and its growth.What you will do:

  • Leadership: Provide leadership, coaching, and training to the corporate accounting and account payables team.
  • Financial Reporting: Lead the monthly and annual close process. Review and prepare the MD amp;A, financial statements, external reports, and other management reports and Board package on a quarterly and annual basis. Perform non-routine, complex accounting assignments involving the application of generally accepted accounting practices and requiring highly developed analytical skills and business acumen. Research new IFRS standards that would impact the companys financial position and financial statements and co-ordinate policy solutions.
  • Financial Strategy: Support all departments on all aspects of corporate accounting and providing financial analysis and insights to support strategic decision-making. Play a leading role in the development of annual business plans and budgets. Prepare and present the monthly financial management report to the executive team to provide vital information for decision making.
  • Accounts payables: Oversee and support day-to-day account payables processes, coordinating with the business to ensure accurate and timely process of payables for month-end cycles.
  • Treasury: Responsible for managing credit facilities compliance reporting and contribute to cash flow management.
  • Audit and Internal Controls: Manage the relationship with external auditors and ensure working papers are prepared on a timely and accurate manner for the quarterly review and annual audits. Implement and monitor adherence to corporate accounting policies and responsible for internal control procedures to ensure the accuracy, completeness and integrity of financial results.
  • Taxation Compliance: Oversee tax filing processes to ensure compliance with corporate tax compliance, oversight of GST, and other tax related reporting.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously improve and provide recommendations on financial processes and procedures to enhance efficiencies.
What you will bring:
  • Professional accounting designation
  • 5-10 years of full-cycle accounting and management accounting role with direct supervisory experience
  • Experience in real estate/property management and Yardi Voyager would be considered an asset
  • Proficient in Excel
  • Aptitude to motivate and inspire team members
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize multiple deliverables and adapt to change
  • Encompasses strong critical thinking with a proactive mindset
  • Positive, collaborative, and professional attitude with a high degree of integrity
  • A continuous process improvement mentality, with the ability to recognize opportunities to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in existing processes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and strong attention to detail
