We are always on the lookout for talented individuals to join our team.The Opportunity:Working in the joint Calgary Herald/Calgary Sun newsroom, the successful candidate will be expected to be well-rounded and help write and post up breaking news, and be able to handle a variety of forms of journalism to drive digital engagement. The producer must be creative and collaborative. Applicants should be social media savvy, know how to write and cover major events and be an innovative thinker when it comes to producing content for our readers. The applicant will also be well-versed as a writer/editor, as responsibilities will extend to editing content for print publication, as well as producing sharp headlines and exercising superior news judgment.What You #39;ll Do:

  • Produce multi-faceted coverage for a variety of sections on calgarysun.com and calgaryherald.com
  • Must be a strong headline writer with knowledge of best practises for SEO and social sharing
  • Understand the importance of video, and display a comfort level with editing and working with it
  • Experience working in writing and producing breaking news and alerts in a quick and accurate manner
  • Focus on mobile initiatives for website content and customization of content for smartphone users, including newsletters
Who you are:
  • Ability to work on large-scale multimedia packages, including digital presentation.
  • Several years of experience at a news organization.
  • Display an ability and understanding of audience metrics
  • Fluency in digital platforms, multimedia journalism and social media.
  • Knowledge of HTML code would be an asset, along with the ability to create and embed interactive graphs and graphics
  • Extensive knowledge and story judgment
  • Ability to work constructively as part of a newsroom team.
