Job Description

DIRECTOR OF ACCOUNTING AND FINANCE-CALGARY, ABWith approximately 3,300 employees, JBS Food Canada ULC (JBS Canada) is one of Canada #39;s largest beef processors. Consisting of four locationsthe main processing facility located in Brooks, Alberta, where approximately 4,200 head of cattle are harvested and processed daily; the Head Office and a case ready plant, both based in Calgary, Alberta; and JBS Ontario, a case ready plant located in Belleville, Ontario. The JBS Canada facility in Brooks has the capacity to produce products ranging from boxed beef primals, ground beef, beef trimmings, beef by-products and hides which are shipped across Canada and worldwide. At the multi-protein Mountain Creek Farms case-ready facility in Calgary, JBS Canada produces value-added products including marinated, portion sized, multi-pack options, kebabs and much more. JBS Ontario in Belleville produces fresh meat and seafood products for leading retailers in Canada.JBS Food Canada is seeking an experienced, ambitious and highly motivated Director of Accounting and Finance to join its dynamic team in servicing the retail and food service sectors in Canada.NOTE: This role will be located in the head office in Calgary, Alberta.Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Business Administration with CPA Designation;
  • 7 years plus of experience in senior financial management position in a large-scale organization;
  • Strong background in accounting;
  • Experience with MS Excel is required and advanced knowledge (pivot tables, formulas like sumifs, index, xlookup);
  • Strong work ethic, attention to detail and organized;
  • Ability to work efficiently, independently;
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills with high attention to detail;
  • Ability to think ahead and anticipate issues before they arise;
  • Ability to apply best practices for effective communication and problem solving;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including technical writing skills;
  • Self-directed, has initiative and a strong multi-tasking ability;
  • Must be able to work with people from diverse backgrounds and lead teams in multiple locations;
  • Must be able to travel domestically and internationally;
  • Must have a valid drivers license.
Responsibilities:
  • Lead the annual budget process for the company, working collaboratively with a multi-functional team;
  • Challenge key assumptions based on actual trends, knowledge of the business model, and the need to continuously improve overall profitability;
  • Ensure an accurate forecast is built with buy-in from all key leadership team members;
  • Communicate the current financial performance of the business;
  • Oversee the production of the monthly variance analysis of actual vs. budget and forecast, including root cause analysis and recommendations to improve profitability and deliver planned targets;
  • Make recommendations for proactive operational changes to drive for improved financial management and profitability;
  • Work collaboratively with business unit leadership to influence required changes;
  • Drive improvements in the companys approach to managing profitability;
  • Ensure that resources are in place to monitor actual profitability vs expectations and gaps are addressed with action;
  • Ensure required monthly management reports and metric reports for the key business lines within the organization #39;s corporate group are produced on time, and are unified in methodology and approach;
  • Create valid productivity analyses, and monitor hiring activities to ensure effective management of costs in line with revenue projections in any given fiscal year;
  • Recruit, organize, train and manage staff;
  • Provide financial support for Corporate business cases;
  • Ensure effective, but profitable growth commitments are made and agreed to by the leadership team before securing incremental company resources;
  • Track actual performance vs estimated in the business cases to capture learnings and report back to management;
  • Influence cultural change by ensuring financial data is disseminated, reviewed, and linked to decisions in a way that drives for overall margin growth;
  • Be seen as the key partner to senior leadership to drive improved results in a sustainable manner;
  • Act as liaison between the organization and its shareholders, the investing public and external financial analysts.
