We recognize the importance of creating and maintaining long-term, respectful relationships with Indigenous peoples built on trust, respect, and mutual understanding. We accomplish this through proactive and transparent communication with Indigenous communities. Robust and meaningful consultation is a regulatory requirement the company takes seriously, and we commit to engagement with Indigenous communities to inform, guide, and support our operations.We are currently seeking an Indigenous Relations Advisor to work within our Surface Land Team. The position will be based in Calgary and be responsible to work with asset teams, land brokers and field agents to coordinate the various projects that require Indigenous consultation. They will be the main contact with ACO (Aboriginal Consultation Office). The successful candidate will require someone with outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, as well as proficiency in the intricacies and sensitivities involved in community engagement.Main Responsibilitiesamp; Activities:Coordinate and achieve adequacy for consultation and notification with the Aboriginal Consultation Office (ACO) and Indian Oil and Gas Canada (IOGC)

  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with Indigenous communities where we operate.
  • Use experience with Indigenous communities and knowledge of local context and sensitivities to build meaningful and mutually beneficial relationships.
  • Maintain a database of key contacts with all Indigenous communities we work with.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders
  • Work with the team to resolve any community concerns as they arise.
  • Work alongside various Business Units to ensure consistency in approach and standards and communication on progress
  • Take initiative to identify opportunities by looking at the bigger picture and providing strategies to identify and engage in successful relationships.
  • Regular reporting on the progress of plans and initiatives
  • Some travel will be required
Knowledge, Skillsamp; Abilities:
  • 5-7 years of relevant professional work experience
  • Familiarity with process, protocol and regulations pertaining to Stakeholder and Indigenous consultation.
  • A self-starter with the ability to work independently to achieve results.
  • Demonstrated success working with different communities of interest and designing, managing and evaluating associated strategies and programs.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities, governments, organizations, and stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation and interpersonal skills and experience of working with broad range of people and groups.
  • Experience of monitoring and evaluating programs and initiatives.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
