Job Description

Your Opportunity:Skypointe II Complex Mental Health Rehabilitation Program is a unique 32-bed Addiction and Mental Health Continuing Care Program located in the community of Skyview in Calgary. You will have the opportunity to work with a group of dynamic multidisciplinary professionals supporting clients in their rehabilitation and recovery journey in collaboration with our community partner AgeCare. The facility offers a kitchen, craft areas, a library, a group facilitation hub, quiet rooms and a fitness area to support the clients. It #39;s rewarding being part of supporting individuals maintaining their psychiatric stability while assisting them in building the skills required to reintegrate into the community. As the Occupational Therapist (OT), you will work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team, and peace officers, as well as partner with agency staff members, to provide care to clients both on-site and in the community. Skypointe II is a transitional rehabilitation program, the clients involved will be supported to meet their individualized goals. You will be completing the tasks typical of an OT as well as transporting clients to appointments and outside activities as required or recommended within the client #39;s treatment plan as well as assisting in creating and running client-specific programs and rehabilitation options including facilitating psychosocial rehabilitation groups; supporting clients to access community programs; vocational support; health promotion; and recover. Possession of a valid driver #39;s license and access to a motor vehicle in good repair for work-related travel is required - that may include driving clients, if necessary.Description:As an Occupational Therapist (OT), you will provide evidence-informed services, with a focus on occupational performance designed to meet the needs of individuals, groups, or a community. You may act as a direct service provider, consultant, educator, or advocate and function as an integral health care team member. You will engage individuals, groups, and communities to enable meaningful and chosen occupations, including self-care, productivity and leisure. You will support clients to achieve optimum functional abilities and independence related to their cognitive, affective, spiritual, and physical strengths and limitations. As an OT, you will provide comprehensive services, including triage, screening, consultation, assessment, diagnosis, collaborative goal setting, treatment, prevention, self-management, education, case management, referral, transition support, and collaboration with relevant and chosen stakeholders and supports within the client¿s physical, institutional, cultural, and social environments. You will include clients and families as integral members of the health care team, encouraging their active participation in all aspects of care. You will collaborate with clients and families in determining, implementing, and evaluating rehabilitation. You will participate in a variety of interprofessional teams to build awareness, enrich support and engage in quality improvement by partnering with healthcare providers, patients, families, and other stakeholders to advance services for the clients. You will contribute to quality improvement and their professional community and participate in peer mentoring and supervising students. You may also provide clinical supervision to Therapy Assistants and Therapy Aides.

Required Qualifications:Completion of bachelor #39;s degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program. Registered with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT).Additional Required Qualifications:Minimum 6 months experience in the last 5 years in an acute care/continuing care/ or community mental health setting required. Working knowledge of the Alberta Mental Health Act and Community Treatment Orders legislation. Understanding of the DSM-5 with demonstrated knowledge of mental health diagnosis, symptomatology and treatment modalities/interventions. Experience with complex populations including the ability to work with potentially aggressive clients. Knowledge of psychotic disorders, understanding of harm reduction principles. Experience in completing Occupational Therapy Functional Assessments. Alberta Aid to Daily Living (AADL) authorization. Experience in conducting psychosocial assessments, treatment planning, case management, and recovery focused practice. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Motor Vehicle Required. Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs., climb 3 flights of stairs and ambulate quickly.Preferred Qualifications:Minimum 2 years of occupational therapy experience in an acute/community mental health setting preferred. Group facilitation skills with preference to experience in a mental health and/or addiction treatment setting.
