Job Description

Your Opportunity:The Consultant, Patientamp; Family Centred Care is a key engagement role within the Calgary Zone Integrated Quality Management (IQM) department and reports directly to the Manager, Patientamp; Family Centred Care. The Consultant collaborates with leadership, staff, physicians, volunteers, patients and families throughout the Calgary Zone to incorporate the perspectives of patients and families into service planning and delivery and to further the philosophy and practices of PFCC throughout the Zone. The Consultant is responsible for developing patient/family engagement strategies; recruiting, training and supporting volunteer Patient/Family Advisors; facilitating and engaging patients, families, staff, physicians, and volunteers in PFCC initiatives; and supporting clinical and clinical support service programs and professionals to successfully embed patient engagement and PFCC practices in all aspects of Calgary Zone planning, education, operations and evaluation.Description:The Consultant works with a high degree of independence and with other members of the PFCC team to support improving the experiences of patients and families accessing care within the Calgary Zone. The position consults with and provides direct support to clinical and clinical support managers, frontline staff, physicians and leaders to grow Patient/Family Advisor opportunities. The Consultant develops patient/family engagement resources, tools, processes and educational materials. The Consultant also provides education to staff, physicians, and volunteers regarding PFCC best practices. The position represents the PFCC department and builds relationships with other Calgary Zone programs to embed PFCC and patient/family engagement practices into all aspects of planning and service delivery in the Zone. The position works closely with Volunteer Resources who provide administrative (human resources) support for the screening, registration, on-boarding and tracking of volunteer hours of Patient/Family Advisors in the Zone. Serving as a mentor to Calgary Zone staff and others throughout AHS, the Consultant builds strong collaborative partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, including the provincial AHS Engagementamp; Patient Experience team, and is a champion of patientamp; family centred care principles and philosophy, and patient/family engagement practices across AHS. The Consultant is responsible for: Contributing to the achievement of all IQM goals. Supporting Calgary Zone staff and physicians to understand, develop action plans, and embed PFCC. Identifying opportunities to collaborate to improve policies and practices across the Calgary Zone to achieve improved patient/families #39; experiences through the direct engagement of patients/families. Leading and coordinating PFCC and engagement related projects as required.

Required Qualifications:Bachelor degree in a health related discipline (e.g., nursing, Allied Health). Minimum of 5 years #39; experience as a direct care provider in an acute care, continuing care, or community care setting. Demonstrated interest in and knowledge of Patientamp; Family Centred Care. Experience in community engagement, public relations, volunteer management an asset. Experience and perspective as a patient/family member or user of health care servicesamp;/or experience working with and involving patients and families in health care service planning, implementation and evaluation.Additional Required Qualifications:Excellent communication skills, ability to engage and build collaborative relationships with staff, physicians, patients, families, and leaders. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Strong problem solving, evaluation, and project management skills. Strong group facilitation, presentation, and engagement skills. Ability to engage and relate to diverse age, cultural, and demographic backgrounds. Must respect patient confidentiality and exhibit a high degree of professionalism. Honest, trustworthy, respectful, and empathetic. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.Preferred Qualifications:Institute for Patient and Family Centered Care Intensive Training Seminar certificate desired. Able to motivate and lead staff and volunteers. Multi-media skills (Telehealth, e-learning, PowerPoint, Zoom, digital story-telling).
