As a member of this collaborative team, you can expect a safe, diverse and inclusive environment, and on-going learning and career development opportunities.About the RoleReporting to the Finance Manager, the Project Accountant is accountable for providing all aspects of accounting support for a project or group of projects. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that project accounting processes and controls are being adhered to, in accordance with company policies and procedures, to ensure clear, accurate, consistent, and relevant project financial information on a timely basis. The role is focused on executing the work, while gaining leadership experience and managing a team of Project Accountants and Accounting Clerks. The incumbent is developing in leadership and communication skills while furthering their technical competencies. The Project Accounant is a key representative of the Project Accounting Function and is responsible for maintaining strong collaborative relationships with project staff. He or she is developing in the role of trusted business partner and key contributor with Project Managers and Operations Managers in the branch/business unit.As a Project Accountant at Graham, you will perform the following Essential Functions:ExecutionTransactional Services

  • Ensure the general transactional accounting processes, reconciliations, and month-end procedures are completed in an accurate and timely manner and in compliance with deadlines.
  • Responsible for the administration of contracts in adherence with company policy.
  • Responsible for the accurate reconciliation and completion of owner progress billings (including change orders), ensuring complete, accurate and timely billings, in accordance with the contract.
  • Review and direct the timekeeping process and LEMS reporting, to ensure complete, timely delivery that is inline with owner requirements, and compliant with union agreements and labour standards.
Cash Management
  • Manage accounts receivable collections and support AR reporting and resolutions of disputes and timely collection of outstanding balances.
  • Support and provide project input for consolidated branch/business unit weekly cash flow forecasts.
Planning and ProcessStandards, Processamp; Controls
  • Ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, and internal controls at the project level, including project setup and maintenance in the system.
  • Apply knowledge of professional accounting standards, including revenue recognition and accruals.
  • Ensure adherence to government, Provincial/State regulations, and taxes to ensure compliance at the Project level.
  • Ensure adherence to documented accounting processes and evaluates and recommends improvements for increased efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of Governance and Compliance frameworks and maintains effective internal controls.
  • Support the deliverables for audit work requirements (externalamp; client) for projects.
  • Assist in the ongoing development of systems and processes and improvement opportunities.
Financial AccountabilitiesOrganizational Impact
  • Provides contributory financial support to a project or portfolio of projects with project revenues in the range of $10M - $15M and annual project revenues of $80M - $150M.
Client FocusOperations Financial Support
  • Review and understand JV/Project contract terms and conditions in relation to project setup, billing requirements, costing, tax compliance, and labour standards/rates.
  • Support Operations for Contract Management and Administration including: New Entity/JV/Project setups for AR, billing, and costing.
  • Examine and review project cost reports to ensure costs are accurately allocated to projects, prepares job cost analysis, and identifies and communicates any cost overruns/anomalies.
  • Prepare accounts receivables, subtrade, and change order reconciliations.
  • Participate in and support Operations in regular monthly project reviews and job cost forecasting, providing contestability to the project financials.
  • Support Operations with financial understanding and competencies.
Reportingamp; Analysis
  • Contribute to management reporting, budgeting, and forecasting for projects as required. • Provide monthly project cost reporting and analysis.

Qualifications/Experience:Degree in Commerce/Business/Accounting or a related field.
  • 5 - 7 years relevant accounting experience.
  • 1 or more years #39; experience in a supervisory role.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Deadline oriented.
  • Demonstrate moderate to strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of Project Accounting principles and practices.
  • Demonstrate good Technical accounting proficiency in billing and cost accounting.
  • Demonstrate good analytical skills.
  • Experience in Construction, Engineering or Heavy Manufacturing Industries.
  • Good understanding of the Construction business and what factors drive profitability.
  • Advanced Excel Skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of ERP systems, SAP preferred.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of UAT testing for systems upgrades and enhancements.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of financial and management/cost accounting systems.
