Want to be part of the creation and construction of our cities Then the infrastructure team is for you!Looking to take the next step in your careerHatch, a full-service consultancy, is currently seeking a highly motivated Senior Rail Systems Electrical Engineer to join the Rail Systems in one of our Western Canada locations (Calgary, Mississauga or Vancouver).Working in a team environment, this opportunity will challenge your technical skills as you deliver complex railway systems projects and provide an opportunity to lead through mentoring, training and development of more junior staff.   • Develop a thorough understanding of the project requirements as they relate to scope, cost and schedule.
  • Prepare a list of engineering deliverables and time-based functions to facilitate the planning and control of the engineering budget.
  • Maintain the project scope of work documentation and revisions as required during the design evolution.
  • Review and execute the electrical and layout design criteria documents.
  • Review electrical technical deliverables (specifications, datasheets, drawings, etc.).
  • Assist in the preparation and development of project specific procedures.
  • Define the system requirements to achieve the project results and monitor effectiveness.
  • Represent the electrical practice in project engineering coordination meetings.
  • Participate in electrical design reviews.
  • Ensure coordination, between the electrical team and other disciplines, of all activities being performed as the design evolves.
  • Ensure that quality audits of engineering work are carried out in accordance with project procedures and the quality assurance plan.
  • Promote and maintain the application of ethical and professional practices in the execution of electrical engineering work.
  • Ensure that all work designed, manufactured and supplied in the electrical engineering discipline complies with the relevant sections of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).
  • Participation in the compilation of the client Project Safety Management Plan with specific reference to switching, isolation and lockout procedures.
You bring to the role:
  • Registered as a professional engineer within the Province of Alberta, Ontario, or British Columbia.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of electrical engineering design experience.
  • Knowledge of electrical calculations (short circuit, load flow, protection coordination, arc flash, cable sizing, and lighting design).
  • Experienced in the design of high voltage substations, low voltage secondary distribution systems, and emergency/critical power supply systems.
  • Experience in the design of Buildings/Transit Stations (Fire Life Safety Systems, Emergency Lighting Systems).
  • Experience with electrical design tools/software such as. ETAP, and SKM.
  • Experience with advanced lighting design tools (AGi32) would be considered an asset.
  • Experience with Grounding Theory and Calculations.
  • Experience with REVIT and ELUMTools.
  • Knowledge of industry/regulatory codes and standards (CSA, NBC, NFPA, AREMA and IEEE standards).
  • Experience in electrical system design in a Railroad Environment would be considered an asset.
  • A high degree of understanding of interdisciplinary dependencies related to the discipline.
  • Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to convey project technical information to project managers, clients and peers.
