Job Description

Your Opportunity:Under the supervision of the Calgary Eating Disorder Program (CEDP) Inpatient Manager, and in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team, the Registered Nurse will act as a primary care provider and utilize the Nursing process in delivering professional Nursing care to individuals who have an eating disorder and their families. This will include utilizing professional knowledge, technical skills, interpersonal skills, and clinical judgement. The Registered Nurse will participate in the provision of education and treatment in both individual and group therapy formats. Primary responsibilities include medical monitoring and assessment as well as facilitating group therapy and meal support therapy. The position is currently based on PCU 32 at the FMC; however, the Eating Disorder Program will move into a dedicated inpatient unit in 2026. This will be turning to a 0.74 FTE D/E.Description:As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $35.87/hour - $43.82/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable. Required Qualifications:Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.phpid=271#section-0)Additional Required Qualifications:3 - 5 years of recent experience in acute inpatient or outpatient mental health. Experience in facilitating group therapy. Experience dealing with the medical complications that could arise with eating disorders and be able to provide treatment as directed, assess potential difficulties, and respond to medical emergencies. Must have skills in psychiatric and medical assessment and crisis intervention. Strong team skills, initiative, motivation, and self-starter. Excellent interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to maintain collaborative working relationships with patients, families, and team members. Experience working on a multi-disciplinary team.Preferred Qualifications:Experience with patients who have an eating disorder and their families preferred. Strong computer skills, including experience working in Connect Care an asset. Experience working in Mental Healthamp; Medicine. Experience with group therapy.
