Support Senior Underwriters on complex files including data entry into systems, accumulations review, and CAT mapping. Assesses and evaluates moderately complex risk. Quotes, negotiates, and authorizes the acceptance of new business, renewals, cancellations and endorsements. Ensures authorized limits are in accordance with established company guidelines, applicable laws and regulations as well as applies standard rates and premiums in underwriting quotes, reviews supporting claim reports. Implements and exercises learned techniques including; qualifying a sale opportunity, prepare for contact, contact broker, develop proposal, sell proposal, gain commitment and closing the sale.We #39;re looking for a level 1 Underwriter to join our growing team!As an Intermediate Underwriter, Commercial Insurance, you will work with our National Brokers focusing on a range of commercial and industrial risks, including such diverse segments as, manufacturing, commercial real estate, contracting, wholesaling, warehousing, health services and other financial, business professional services. Your work will have a big impact on the Commercial Insurance team and you will work very closely with our Senior Underwriters on larger and more complex risks to further develop your technical underwriting skills.People will count on you to think outside the box and provide creative solutions. You will build a profitable portfolio of accounts above our $10,000 minimum premium with an emphasis on providing legendary service on renewals and quoting new business.This position is a full-time hybrid permanent position with a minimum of 2 days a week in the Calgary office.What you #39;ll do here:

  • Solicit and analyze requests for quotes, renewals and policy changes, and recommend innovative solutions
  • Support our National Brokers regarding underwriting and rating policies
  • Develop long-term and meaningful relationships with our National Broker partners by providing legendary service
  • Use negotiating skills to maintain healthy relationships within and outside the company
  • Provide creative solutions on how to improve the department and increase efficiencies
  • Review and analyze policy coverages and claims experience
  • Ensure underwriting files are well documented and compliant with corporate guidelines
  • Underwrite a profitable book of new and renewal business in accordance with corporate guidelines
  • Interpret loss control reports and develop internal capacity
What you bring to the table:
  • Minimum 1-2 years of property/casualty underwriting assistant experience
  • Solid knowledge and awareness of market conditions and trends
  • Actively enrolled in courses and working toward the CIP designation
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills because you understand the importance of building relationships by tailoring your approach when dealing with different communication styles
  • Exemplary customer service skills
  • Positive, solution-oriented and adaptable attitude
  • Self-driven and able to work effectively under pressure
  • Analytical and flexible to change
  • Strong decision-making skills
