Job Description

:Summary:The person in this position will work on projects with a diverse team of engineers and scientists, completing water resources/civil engineering and related technical assignments. Project work may include hydrologic analysis for rural and urban settings; hydraulic analysis and design related to rivers, streams, conveyances, dams, and other hydraulic structures; watershed management; impact assessments; natural channel design; and working with clients, permitting agencies, and public officials. Assignments may also include leading project teams with a variety of technical backgrounds and disciplines. The work or training may involve short-term, out-of-town assignments either in the field or in another Barr office.Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.Sc. in civil, environmental, or related engineering fields with a focus on water resources
  • 5 years of water resources engineering consulting experience
  • Project management and/or task management experience
  • Experience with water resources challenges such as precipitation and flooding data analysis; urban and rural hydrologic analysis; open channel and pipe flow analysis; hydraulic structures; bank stabilization and stream restoration; flood modelling and mapping; dam break analysis; dam and levee analysis and design
  • Familiarity with hydrologic and hydraulic modelling approaches and software commonly used in the industry
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite, GIS, and CADD software
  • Experience with budget, scope, and/or proposal development
  • Familiarity with water resources data collection methodologies
  • Ability to manage multiple project deadlines, budgets, and scopes
  • Experience providing technical mentorship and guidance to junior staff on the projects
  • P.Eng. registration or eligibility for immediate registration with APEGA
  • Flexible working style and willingness to occasionally modify personal schedule as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Legal authorization to work in Canada without the need for sponsorship from Barr Engineering and Environmental Science Canada Ltd., now or in the future
  • Valid driver #39;s license and acceptable driving record
Preferred Qualifications:
  • M.Sc. or PhD degree(s) in civil, environmental, or related engineering fields
  • 6+ years of water resources engineering consulting experience
  • Eligibility for registration with APEGS and EGBC
  • Experience with client management and business development
  • Experience with GIS; CADD; hydrologic modelling and 1D, 2D, and 3D hydraulic modelling software; and water quality modelling
  • Experience with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modelling tools
  • Experience with coastal engineering and calculations such as wave analysis and coastal shoreline protection design
  • Experience with climate change analyses and modelling
  • Strong technical skills in a broad range of civil engineering topics
  • Experience working with the City of Calgary, other Alberta municipalities, municipal districts, and/or other Alberta or provincial public entities
  • Experience with site development design and plans, specifications, and contract documents
  • Construction observation, fieldwork, and surveying experience
A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of Barr #39;s Calgary, Alberta, office.NOTE: Some work locations will feature the rough terrain typical of construction sites or require lifting and moving equipment. Safety and other training will be provided. Drug screening and participating in a random drug screening program will be required to work for some clients.#LI-Hybrid
