Job Description

POSITIONChamplain College Saint-Lambert is seeking the services of an ACADEMIC ADVISOR, to work on a regular full-time (35 hours per week) position in the Continuing Education department.FUNCTIONSReporting to the Dean of Continuing Education, the incumbent will occupy the position of Academic Advisor and will provide advice, assistance, deliver workshops and information sessions for the Continuing Education student clientele, including RAC candidates.MAIN RESPONSIBILITIESAdmissions1. Assess the admissibility of potential students and RAC candidates for AEC and DEC programs.2. Participate in recruitment activities such as information sessions, open houses and recruitment fairs.3. Provide information to potential students/RAC candidates as well to various partner organizations on the available programs and services offered by the department.Academic Advising4. Advise students with regards to course selection and requirements to ensure that attestations and diploma requirements are met.5. Analyse student and RAC candidate dossiers and provide recommendations for courses required for graduation (including general education courses, if necessary).6. Evaluate student dossiers at the end of each program to confirm eligibility for the attestation or diploma.7. Guide students in the evaluation of their options towards graduation.Transmissions8. Perform transmissions for the department (grades, permanent codes, residency status, etc.) and ensure that Ministerial deadlines and regulations are respected;9. Run reports related to transmissions for verification purposes and ensure corrections are made as needed.Registration10. Responsible for handling requests by students who take courses at other colleges (commandites), including evaluating the courses, correspondence with other institutions, and follow-up with students/candidates.11. Oversee requests for substitutions and equivalencies, including conducting analysis and the preparation of the necessary documentation to assist the Director or delegated authority in their decision.12. Assist with the updating of substitution and equivalency tables.Student Success Measures (Academic Standing and Bylaw Number 8)13. Support students throughout their studies by providing appropriate academic paths that favour success and achievement of a College diploma or attestation.14. Design, organize and animate activities and workshops that promote the students academic progress and success.15. Apply the relevant articles of Bylaw Number 8, particularly with consideration for those most at risk; where necessary, meet with students in order to provide them with the tools and references that will help them identify their problems and appropriate solutions.16. Assess the causes or risks of failure and/or course withdrawal and make suggestions to students & RAC candidates on the ways they can remedy the situation.17. Refer students for personal, career or psychological counseling as needed and follows-up.18. Research and interpret data regarding the academic performance and progress of students and RAC candidates.19. Create and put in place projects that focus on student success.20. Provide the Program Coordinators with advice about re-admission as per Bylaw Number 8.21. Work in collaboration with the staff in the student accessibility center to ensure proper resources are in place for students with special needs.Advisory Functions22. Advise students on the consequences of dropping courses and the requirements for student success.23. Advise the Dean of Continuing Education in relation to academic regulations (e.g. Student Success Bylaw) and requests for Permanent Incompletes.24. Assist with the development, monitoring and program revision process of AECs and DECs given in the department as per the Institutional Policy on the Management of Academic Programs, in particular, providing advice on program admission requirements and course success rates.25. Contact and follow-up with the Ministry regarding issues related to the above mentioned tasks, upon request by the Director.26. Establish and maintain contact with other departments such as the Registrar’s Office.Requirements :EducationUndergraduate degree in an appropriate field of specialization, particularly in Education, Guidance Counselling or Psychology.CompetenciesExcellent communication skills in English.Fluent in French.Demonstrated capacity to work with students with special needs.Collaborative, deadline oriented and professional.Experience working with an adult clientele is an asset.Experience in academic advising, admissions, or student success initiatives are strong assets.Required Tests : The candidates will be required to submit to language tests in English and French.Work Schedule : Monday to Friday (35 hours per week)Salary Scale : 48,689.00$ - 83,462.00$Start of Posting Period : 2022-08-17End of Posting Period : 2022-08-31 23:59Champlain College Saint-Lambert, a constituent college of Champlain Regional College, hires on the basis of merit and is strongly committed to equity, diversity and inclusiveness within its community.
