Job Description

We’re looking for a Customs Specialist our Purchasing department. If you are passionate, self-motivated and would like to work for a dynamic and leading company in the promotional items industry, we want to meet you!Job Summary:The Customs Specialist is responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable import and export regulations and laws for the company. They will work closely with the supply chain team, customs brokers, freight forwarders, and other stakeholders to ensure timely and compliant movement of goods across borders.Reporting to: Purchasing ManagerTasks are the following but not limited to:

  • Manage the customs clearance process for imports and exports, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and laws.
  • Classify goods according to their tariff code (Canada and USA) and determine the appropriate duties and taxes to be paid while maintaining system with all HS codes and duty rates.
  • Maintain the supporting documentation used for classification determination (product specifications, correspondence with customs broker, notations on rulings consulted, basis for the HS code decision, etc.)
  • Manage and coordinate duty drawback process (Canada and USA) ensuring timely and accurate submission of documents.
  • Prepare and submit customs declarations and other necessary documentation to customs officials and brokers, file Post-Entry Corrections if needed.
  • Communicate with vendors, freight forwarders, customs brokers and customs officials to resolve any issues or concerns related to customs clearance.
  • Maintain accurate records of customs transactions and prepare reports as required.
  • Maintain knowledge of all applicable import and export regulations, including but not limited to, customs regulations, export control regulations, and sanctions programs.
  • Monitor and report on changes in import and export regulations and make recommendations to management on changes needed to company policies and procedures.
Skills/Requirements:
  • 3 years relevant knowledge
  • Experience with import and export requirements
  • Knowledge of Customs requirements and HS code system (ex: valuation, classification, markings, USMCA, ruling)
  • Knowledge of duty drawback process
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Exceptional team player
  • MS office software – intermediate/advanced
  • Inquisitive, with solid problem-solving skills
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize autonomously
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Detail oriented
  • Bilingual; French, English
Assets:
  • Experience with importation process
  • Experience with First Sale import procedures and process
