As a member of the Wellness (HR) team, the Payroll and Benefits Specialist is responsible for carrying out the entire payroll cycle as well as administering the various benefits programs.Responsibilities

  • Enter and process bi-weekly payroll data for all Canadian and American colleagues using computer system
  • Ensure compliance with applicable provincial standards and regulations
  • Act as an advisor to the management team by identifying issues and proposing solutions and improvements
  • Provide exemplary customer service in support of colleague well-being: act as a resource person for all colleagues regarding payroll and benefits
  • Contribute to the evolution of controls and good governance of our payroll practices
  • Enter data related to adjustments that may impact payroll, such as hires, terminations in the payroll system, salary changes, contact information, etc.
  • Validate if time and absence approvals have been processed in the payroll system and ensure follow-ups with managers if necessary
  • Administer benefit programs, including group insurance plan, retirement savings plan (RRSP-DPSP) and employee assistance program (EAP)
  • Complete required enrollments and updates of insurance and pension plan records
  • Transmit remittances and information to various government agencies and external suppliers (CNESST, WCB, WSIB)
  • Prepare year-end T1 and T4 statements, summaries and other required statements
  • Prepare various reports related to payroll, compensation or time management
  • Work in collaboration with other teams when required
  • Participate in special projects related to payroll, benefits and colleague well-being.
Qualifications
  • DEC in accounting or human resources or any other training combined with relevant experience
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar position
  • Agility with computerized payroll management tools
  • Mastery of the MS Office suite
  • Knowledge of the complete payroll cycle in Quebec, Ontario and Alberta
  • Analytical skills, strong attention to detail and accuracy of information
  • Demonstrate good judgment, discretion and diplomacy
  • Demonstrate a strong sense of initiative, resourcefulness and autonomy
  • Have a strong sense of responsibility and good teamwork skills
  • Bilingual (French and English), both orally and in writing.
Assets
  • Payroll Compliance Specialist or Payroll Management Certification
  • Knowledge of ADP and Trinet (USA) payroll systems
  • Knowledge of Quebec, Ontario and Alberta employment standards
  • Knowledge of Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS).
