Job Description

Job Title: 310 T/ Shop SupervisorReports To: OwnerLocation: St Marys, ONWe are a heavy truck repair and fabrication facility and are seeking a Shop Supervisor.Reporting to the Owner, the position is responsible for supervising the shopmechanics/apprentices including training, inspecting work, managing tools and specialequipment and ensuring maintenance and repairs meet our client’s high standards. Theincumbent will maintain a positive work environment by providing all employees with fairand equitable supervision and encouraging professional and personal growth. Safetyand positive customer relations are the cornerstones of this position.Key Relationships:

  • Internally: All Employees.
  • Externally: Customers, Contractors/Sub-Contractors, Suppliers, MTO Officials.
Qualifications:Education:
  • Essential: Completion of high school or vocational equivalent.
  • Desirable:
    • Current/updated courses on automotive technology, equipment and techniques.
    • Certified Truck/Coach Auto Mechanics license and satisfactory completion and ongoing updates of automotive technology programs.
    • Ozone Depletion license.
Knowledge:Essential:
  • Prior supervisory experience and 5+ years work experience in the mechanical repair and maintenance of all company related equipment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel etc.
  • Knowledge of safety rules and precautions related to the use of tools, vehicles, equipment and shop environment.
  • Knowledge of methods, tools, materials, equipment and procedures used in the diagnosis, overhaul, repair and adjustment of components and systems for vehicles and equipment.

  • Ability to read, interpret and apply diagnostic codes, maintenance manuals, electrical diagrams, vehicle emission control standards and related specification manuals.
Special Qualifications:
  • Must have a “G OR GREATER” Class driver’s license not a probationary license.
  • Must have technical knowledge/ previous repair experience.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Co-ordinate maintenance and repairs between Service Department and customers.
  • Oversee and schedule the production and work of all maintenance personnel in repairing and servicing of all vehicles and equipment.
  • Evaluate the work of personnel to ensure safety, efficient management of work processes and services, and provide performance feedback.
  • Maintain a clean safe work environment.
  • Provide technical direction and coordinate training initiatives.
  • Facilitate shop meetings including 5-minute daily stand-up, biweekly 1x1 with each team member and a monthly staff meeting.
  • Record and monitor inventory of tools, and fuels lubricants, etc, ensure the efficient use of and coordinates orders.
  • Ensure 100% compliance with inventory control system.
  • Monitor accuracy and quality of mechanical work and record keeping on all servicing, repairs, inventory and tool maintenance.
  • Perform clerical and administrative functions involved in records keeping and invoicing.
  • Supervise department budgeting and quarterly reporting.
  • Negotiate with suppliers for contract rates as requested.
  • Consult with/address professional operators/ customers to get detailed information on repairs, concerns or equipment failures/condition.
  • Perform and/or assign roadside service/towing as required.
  • Maintain regular communications with Ministry of Transportation Inspectors and MTO standards and mechanical knowledge.
  • Maintain membership in associated organizations.
