Job TitleIT TechnicianJob TypeFull-time Specific ProjectCategoryInformation TechnologySalary GradeData Processing Technician - $23.50 to $31.69Job DescriptionIMPORTANT: Effective immediately until June 30, 2022JOB SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of the Manager of ITS Operations and Security the ITS Technician (Graphic Web Design and Computer Science Focus) assists faculty in the setup and maintenance of the respective department labs and equipment.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinating with the faculty members of the Graphic Web Design and Computer Science departments on behalf of ITS
  • Configuring and maintaining the department’s inventory, be it departmental equipment and consumables, computer hardware or software
  • Providing ITS related assistance to students and faculty
  • Assisting in maintaining a proper work environment within the computer labs.
  • Opening Octopus requests to record and enable tracking of all IT related work being done
Coordination:
  • Liaising with the Graphic Web Design/Computer Science faculty
  • Acting as a liaison between the Graphic Web Design, Computer Science and ITS departments regarding any lab and IT related issues which may arise
  • In conjunction with the ITS Class Principale and ITS managers, maintaining the software images used in the labs
  • Controlling, managing and recording any lending of equipment (cameras for example) to students and/or faculty
Department Equipment:
  • Maintaining of pedagogical servers and software: backup, update, install, configure, troubleshoot, identify hardware failures, apply security updates, etc.
  • Setting up and maintaining of internal pedagogical web servers, database servers, application servers, virtual servers, virtual private servers (vps), and hypervisors. Ensuring that student server resources are only accessible to authorized users
  • Participating in the evaluation of and compatibility of new software and computer hardware
  • Evaluating & maintaining in-service equipment operation, and warehousing for specialty equipment parts
Students and Faculty Assistance:
  • Evaluating emerging technologies (software/hardware) that may be appropriate for the department’s pedagogical needs
  • Providing technical support to users of department computer hardware/software, and other department equipment
  • Event coordinating (i.e. JAC Open Houses & Parent Night, ATE Events, Vernissage, LAN party, Trade Fair, Apples on Campus, Earth Day: scheduling & reserving locations and materials, overseeing installation set-up & dismantling)
  • Training and supervising paid student employees
Documentation:
  • Documenting of procedures, issues and resolutions
  • Maintaining a hardware and software inventory, managing software licenses
  • Documenting and maintaining a disaster recovery plan for pedagogical servers
Laboratories:
  • Performing daily pre-class lab checks of teaching workstations, projectors & Smart Board, printers (including clearing printer cues) & monitoring consumables (ink, paper & toner)
  • Verifying that the labs and workstations are clean and that there are no dangers to users. Report cleanliness problems and dangers to Facilities
  • Managing the inventory of department specific consumables
  • Performing validation of all custom computer software images, in addition to validating that all necessary software is part of the image, also verifying that:
  • Software licenses are, and will be, valid throughout the semester,
  • Upgrades are up to date,
  • Synchronous deployment of updates,
  • All software has the auto update turned off
QUALIFICATIONS: Education: College diploma in Computer Science or a diploma or an attestation of studies, which is recognized as equivalent by the competent authoritySpecific Requirements:
  • 2 years work experience an asset
  • Good interpersonal skills (soft skills)
  • Ability to work collaboratively with college support staff and faculty
  • Ability to communicate courteously with students
  • Willingness to upgrade skills and stay current technologically
  • Flexibility and adaptability
  • Good judgment and creative thinking
  • Self-motivated, autonomous and proactive
  • Computer hardware and software (Windows 8/10, Linux, servers, software installation, basic scripting, etc.) an asset
  • Adobe CC Suite, camera basics an asset
  • Advanced English –oral and written
  • Intermediate French oral and written comprehension
  • Basic French written
Testing may be required to demonstrate knowledge of:
  • Remote trouble shooting of typical ITS issues
  • Maintenance and repair of computers and media equipment
  • Diagnosis and solution of hardware and software problems
  • Knowledge of MS Office and PC/MAC operating systems
  • Computer Competency Test
  • Advanced English oral and written
  • Intermediate French oral and written comprehension
  • Basic French written
