Job Description

IMPORTANT: Effective immediatelySalary scale: 84 166$ to 112 219$JOB SUMMARYThe College is seeking two Program Deans to replace positions being vacated. The Program Deans report directly to the Academic Dean and are responsible for the academic integrity of all programs under their leadership. Working collaboratively with all members of the Academic Administration, Program Deans are expected to optimize and promote student success by assuring quality programming and maximizing the learning experience for all of our students in all programs. Also important is the Program Deans’ responsibility to support, implement and help lead the strategic objectives of the College. The College will continue its recent approach of assigning special responsibility for pedagogical development and innovation to one Program Dean, as Dean of Pedagogical Development and Innovation, who also has responsibilities for specific programs.RESPONSIBILITIES:Qualified individuals from all sectors and disciplines are invited to apply. As in the past, Dean portfolios do not need to correspond to areas of prior experience, and the Academic Dean can adjust dossiers in consultation with Program Deans. In addition to program, committee and associated portfolios, one Dean will have specific responsibilities for overseeing pedagogical development and innovation. More generally, under the supervision of the Academic Dean, the Program Dean has the following responsibilities:

  • Academic Leadership
  • Ensure the delivery of quality programming in accordance with academic policies and procedures;
  • Coordinate the program approach within programs;
  • Chair program and other college committees as required;
  • Oversee and facilitate program assessments and revisions or new program development;
  • Develop and implement work plans that elucidate the short and long-term goals and objectives of departments and programs;
  • Support Department Chairs and Program Coordinators in carrying out their responsibilities, and promote collaboration among them and all faculty;
  • Oversee the co-ordination between departmental and program offerings and activities;
  • Participate in project management;
  • Support innovative pedagogical approaches;
  • Participate in the promotion of programs.
2. Personnel Management
  • Plan and monitor the allocation of teaching resources;
  • Participate actively in the hiring process of new faculty, support staff, non-teaching professionals and management staff in the academic sector;
  • Support the orientation and development of new faculty and other employees;
  • Supervise and coach faculty and other employees;
  • Apply the College Policy on the Evaluation of Teaching;
  • Manage conflicts, issues arising from student complaints or other issues in accordance with collective agreements and college policies and procedures.
3. Resource Management
  • Participate in and make decisions on the management and use of budgets, space and equipment in the academic sector, based on appropriate planning and monitoring.
4. College Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the College’s Strategic Plan;
  • Contribute to the development, implementation and application of the IPESA, Policy 1 on Assessment and Revision and other academic/college policies and procedures;
  • Participate on Academic Council and its sub-committees, the Deans Table and various other college committees and task forces;
  • Participate on committees established by external bodies (Ministry of Higher Education, Fédération des cégeps, Regroupement des cégeps de Montréal, CICAN, etc. as required);
  • Participate in the implementation of college network and international initiatives;
  • Assure effective management of program advisory committees by developing relationships with external groups such as academic institutions, business, industry and other groups;
  • Collaborate with Student Services on initiatives supporting student learning outside the classroom;
  • Collaborate with Human Resources on issues affecting faculty and other categories of personnel.
5. Other duties assigned by the Academic DeanQUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:The successful candidate will have the following minimum qualifications:
  • Master’s degree or equivalent;
  • Five (5) years of relevant leadership experience;
  • Extensive knowledge of post-secondary education and aspects of curriculum development and delivery;
  • Strong organizational and communication skills;
  • Ability to lead and motivate teams;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, as well as appropriate computer skills;
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills in English;
  • Intermediate oral and written communication skills in French.
