Job Description

This is a 60% part-time permanent position (3 days per week)JOB SUMMARY:UNDER THE GENERAL AUTHORITY OF THE DIRECTOR OF STUDENT SERVICES AND UNDER THE DIRECT SUPERVISION OF THE CHAIRPERSON OF THE COUNSELLING DEPARTMENT, THE COUNSELLOR WILL BE INVOLVED IN INDIVIDUAL PERSONAL AND EDUCATIONAL COUNSELLING, CAREER GROUP COUNSELLING, CLASSROOM PRESENTATIONS AND WORKSHOPS.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide personal counselling for students who present a variety of concerns such as anxiety, depression, family problems, sexual abuse, etc., as well as for students concerned with personal growth and developmental issues.
  • Provide career counselling for undecided students who need help with career exploration and decision-making
  • Provide educational counselling for students on academic probation and for students who experience exam and public speaking anxiety.
  • Design and conduct groups, workshops and classroom presentations relevant to student issues such as communication skills, stress management, relationships, life stressors, etc.
  • Act as consultant to faculty and staff regarding students.
QUALIFICATIONS:EducationMinimum Master’s degree in an appropriate discipline such as Counselling PsychologySpecific Requirements:
  • Member in good standing of l’Ordre des psychologues du Québec
  • Minimum of two years of post internship experience in a directly related area preferred
  • Strong clinical skills, including solid suicide risk assessment training
  • Interest and experience in working with the issues of a diverse population of late adolescents and young adults in an educational setting
  • Fully able to provide counselling in both English and French
  • English – Advanced oral, written, and written comprehension
  • French – Intermediate oral and written comprehension, Basic written
  • French – basic written and written comprehension
Testing may be required to demonstrate knowledge of:
  • French (Intermediate oral and written comprehension)
  • French (Basic written)
  • English (Advanced oral, written, and written comprehension)
