Job Description

We are looking for a Social Work Technician who has what it takes to provide assistance to the students who require accommodations and will collaborate in the development of Mental Health initiatives for students at the College.JAC (CEGEP John Abbott College) is a place for those who crave autonomy and want to get involved in their own way. Role and ResponsibilitiesAt JAC, we embody our mission statement – “to provide an excellent education for our students within a stimulating learning environment that will enhance their development and potential for success in society.” At your level, this entails:

  • Participate in the preparation of intervention plans for students who require accommodations, selects measures to be taken to achieve the objectives determined, prepares an action plan and applies these measures.
  • Assist in conducting needs assessments for all students who require accommodations in particular, physically disabled students, students with mental health issues and students with medical concerns.
  • Liaise with appropriate services on campus and with the Cégep du Vieux-Montréal (CCSI) to ensure that appropriate equipment is available to meet the needs of the students.
  • Liaise with teachers and staff to meet the needs of students, in particular, physically disabled students, students with mental health issues and students with medical concerns.
  • Refer students to appropriate support services on campus such as Academic Advising, Counseling, Health Services, Financial Assistance, etc.
  • Keep current with issues relating to funding and regulations concerning students requiring accommodations.
  • Maintain records and prepare documentation required by Cégep du Vieux-Montréal (CCSI) and MEES relating to funding for students requiring accommodations.
  • Liaise with the Registrar’s Office to ensure information is received for the English Exit Exam.
  • Liaise with appropriate individuals on campus to ensure that appropriate emergency procedures are taken with the students
  • Assist with exam invigilation and ensures the integrity of the examination process.
  • Assist with English Exit Exam and priority registration processes.
  • Perform any other related tasks as may be assigned
Required Qualifications:College diploma in an appropriate specialty (Social Service / Special Care Counselling) or a diploma or an attestation of studies, which is recognized as equivalent by the competent authorityConsidered a Plus:
  • Two years experience working with students who require accommodations
  • Experience working with students experiencing mental health difficulties
  • Ability to understand and relate well to a diverse College student population
  • Autonomous – ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Computer skills (Word, Internet, Excel)
  • English – advanced, both oral and written
  • French – Intermediate oral, written and comprehension
Testing may be required to demonstrate knowledge of:
  • Word (basic)
  • Excel (basic)
  • English – advanced, both oral and written
  • French – Intermediate oral, written and comprehension
