Job Description

It is more than simply having private space, a schedule for service delivery, recreational programs and other activities. It is a combination of meaningful relationships, social opportunities, culture, choice, shared ideas and interests.Lakeside Manor is seeking a talented Head Chef to champion exemplary food services that enhances the dining experience of residents and their guests. Responsible for managing the kitchen and front of house operations, ensuring high quality service standards in all food preparation, production, presentation and control. This position pays $23.00 - $25.00 per hour.Position Overview:

  • Under direction of the General Manager, the Head Chef is responsible for all aspects of kitchen management, meal planning & preparation, presentation and service;
  • Uses a creative and innovative approach in plating food and nourishments and serving attractive, appetizing food to tenants and guests of the community;
  • Develops and revises recipes, production sheets and ordering practices to ensure consistently high food quality and efficient use of food supply budget. Participates in food service evaluation;
  • Assists in development, implementation, evaluation and revision of food services budgets;
  • Leads and monitors accurate record keeping related to food and supply purchases, inventory control, receiving, portion control and wastage;
  • Plans and directs overall kitchen operations including hiring, training, scheduling and supervision of kitchen staff, purchasing and inventory control;
  • Prepares and/or directs preparation of food items by developing/following methods/procedures. Tests food items for palatability and temperature and adjusts accordingly. Meets high quality service standards for all food preparation, production, presentation and control;
  • Evaluates meals being served to ensure established standards of quality and quantity are maintained. Ensures quality of and timeliness of food preparation and delivery to residents and guests to the community while operating with a high level of customer service; and
  • Ensures food and stores are prepared and maintained in accordance with all food safe and accepted kitchen standards.
Qualifications:
  • Culinary Arts Chef Certification (Red Seal) with at least 5 years recent kitchen and dining management experience. Equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered;
  • Demonstrate strong practical and technical skills in all aspects of food service and kitchen management;
  • Food Safe Level II and WHMIS Certificates required;
  • Experience in electronic food ordering;
  • Adept planning, organizing and time management skills with an ability to prioritize, multi-task and think strategically in all aspects of the kitchen;
  • Demonstrate strong practical skills in cost controls, management, Food safe practices and WorkSafe regulations;
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent leadership, interpersonal, motivation, and supervision skills with kitchen and service staff;
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position
