The Board of Education ofSchool District No. 83 (North Okanagan-Shuswap)School District No. 83 is presently seekingQT – PLUMBERThe North Okanagan-Shuswap School District No. 83 invites qualified individuals to apply for the Trade Qualified Plumber position. This is a Regular 40 Hours per week CUPE union position, 12 months of the year.THE DISTRICT :The North Okanagan-Shuswap School District is a widely dispersed district which includes the five major communities of Salmon Arm, Sicamous, Sorrento, Enderby, and Armstrong. The school district provides educational support for 6,800 K-12 students in twenty-two schools with a professional staff of more than 1,200 employees. The North Okanagan-Shuswap School District is committed to enhancing a positive work environment for staff and a dynamic and supportive educational experience for students.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:Service and maintain all types of mechanical systems related to plumbing, heating and ventilation at all sites.Carry out all types of plumbing maintenance both in fresh and wastewater systems (repair valves, pumps, flushometers, pipe installations, sewer systems and water treatment systems).Service gas fired burner systems for domestic hot water and heating systems.Perform preventative maintenance work on mechanical systems and develop preventative maintenance schedule.Install new mechanical equipment. Construct and install sheet metal duct work, etc.Perform regular operating maintenance and service work on hot water boilers for both heating systems and domestic water supplies.Provide general welding and soldering repairs to mechanical equipment.Carry out repairs and servicing of pneumatic control systems and instructional gas equipment.Perform minor maintenance tasks related to other mechanical and systems trades as required.Prioritize work assignments and ensure work is conducted relevant to building and safety codes.Co-ordinate equipment and material requirements for individual work orders and preventative maintenance.Prepare purchase orders, obtain supplies as required and recommend equipment purchases or replacement.Accept emergency call-outs for repairs.The above job description reflects the principal functions of the job. Other comparable or transient duties which are within the areas of knowledge and skills required by the job description may also be assigned.WORKING CONDITIONS : The work will be both indoor and outdoor. Travel to all School District facilities is required. Transportation may be provided to job site from the Works Complex. Appropriate clothing for all weather conditions and work situations must be supplied and worn by the trades person. Appropriate personal safety equipment is to be supplied and worn by the trades person. Appropriate hand tools for the trade must be supplied by the trades person. May be required to report directly to the worksite.QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED :Hold a valid Class “A†or “B†gas fitter license, with electrical endorsement, as set out under B.C. Ministry of Labour, Gas Safety Branch Regulations.Certification as a journeyman as set out in the B.C. Apprenticeship Act for Plumbing T.Q., or equivalent Interprovincial Technical Qualifications.Three years’ working experience as a tradesperson in maintenance within the trades related to heating, ventilation, plumbing and control systems to include specific experience in: calibration, operation and servicing of pneumatic, electrical, electronic and computerized direct digital control systems; and, testing and servicing of fire sprinkler systems and fire hydrants.Demonstrated ability to take direction and carry out assigned duties independently.Demonstrated ability to perform all aspects of plumbing and gas fitting trades competently.Working knowledge of other related maintenance trades connected with physical plant servicing.Demonstrated ability to work both alone and as part of a team with other trades persons.Hold a valid B.C.
