Job Description

The OpportunityWe are looking for a full-time Intermediate Biogeochemists to add to our Saskatoon office. You will be involved in the technical design and optimization aspects of water treatment projects focused on passive, semi-passive, and biological water treatment in the mining sector. These projects currently include constructed wetland treatment systems, gravel bed bioreactors, in situ treatment (pit lakes, mine pools), saturated rock fills, and improvements of active biological systems. These span the mine life cycle spectrum of greenfield feasibility assessments, operating mines, closure planning, and remediation of long-term legacy sites. What you’ll be doing:
  • Perform calculations related to redox reactions and biogeochemistry.
  • Apply commonly used calculations and screening parameters efficiently to water quality datasets.
  • Contribute to water management and treatment designs through calculations and science-based risk assessments.
  • Consult on projects in the mining sector related to passive, semi-passive, and biological water treatment.
  • Write technical descriptions of work performed.
Your experience and qualifications:
  • Master’s Degree in a scientific field such as biogeochemistry, geochemistry, geology, water quality, environmental sciences, or similar with 2 years of experience or a PhD.
  • Experience with spreadsheets and other data analysis and visualization methods.
  • Strong writing skills.
Other skills/assets (not required, but nice to have – clearly let us know if you have any of these!):
  • Interpretation of microbial analyses involved in the biogeochemical processes.
  • Data management and visualization, such as R, SAS, Python, etc.
  • PHREEQC and/or Geochemists Workbench.
  • Other types of work experience (e.g., service industries, retail, hospitality, restaurants, etc) are included on your resume because work ethic and diversity of work experiences matter.
  • Using editing and collaborative functions in MS Word (e.g., track changes, comments, cross-referencing, etc).
  • Experience with fieldwork, water sampling, field data management, etc.
  • Experimental design, data interpretation, and associated technical reporting.
  • Ninja skills… in a fast-growing company we all wear many hats and are flexible in our day-to-day roles. Contribute to the team’s success through your additional passions, such as graphic design, marketing, app programming, social media engagement, event planning, etc.
Schedule
  • Evening, weekend, or overtime work may be required from time to time based on project and client needs.
  • Ability to work remotely once onboarded, trained, and integrated into projects.
  • Travel may be possible depending on client and project needs.
