Job Description

Communications and Outreach CoordinatorPosition OverviewReporting to the Director of Impact and Strategy, the Communications and Outreach Coordinator supports all aspects of the organization’s engagement and communications efforts. The position coordinates aspects of social media, publications, events, website maintenance and digital communications. The Communications and Outreach Coordinator plays a key role in fostering a positive organizational culture and provides expertise in managing SHRF’s brand across all mediums to enhance the organization’s reputation for excellence.Areas of ResponsibilityWork with SHRF staff to:

  • Develop content for social media that maximizes SHRF’s outreach and presence, enhances target audience engagement, and increases awareness of SHRF’s programs, research stories and impact.
  • Create engaging and impactful content for SHRF’s website. Works to increase website assets, and to maintain an effective and efficient website design and functionality that enhances SHRF’s image and serves SHRF’s stakeholders in an optimal way.
  • Support production of regular newsletters and other communications outputs including annual reports, print publications, stories, advertising, and media releases.
  • Maximize the marketing and outreach potential of special events like Health Research Week, Santé and SHRF awards.
Independent responsibilities:
  • Track and report engagement analytics (website, email, social media) and investigate/recommend strategies to maximize engagement.
  • Investigates, recommends, and implements new ideas for marketing, communications, and outreach initiatives that enhance public awareness of SHRF, its programs and its impact.
  • Serves as an editor to ensure that all communications are appropriately worded (both in grammar and in content)
  • Support events and sponsorships, including coordinating sponsorship recognition.
  • Upholds SHRF’s core values and actively works to positively influence SHRF’s culture while contributing to the effectiveness of internal communications

Technical Proficiencies
  • High proficiency with social media platforms
  • Strong and practical knowledge of website and SEO best practices
  • Understanding of internal management systems
  • Microsoft suite of products including Teams, SharePoint, PowerPoint, Word and Excel
  • Knowledge of design software and graphic design skills would be an asset
Education and Experience
  • The incumbent requires prior training / education in the area of Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations or related field with a minimum 3 years of experience in these areas. A science or research background or understanding is an asset.
