Job Description

Community Arts & Artisanship InstructorNature of Work:Reporting to the Coordinator of the Community Arts & Artisanship Program, this position has the responsibility for the instruction of various art courses, including, but not limited to drawing, painting, graphic design, principles and elements of design, book making, and collage. The successful candidate will be given latitude to propose new course content and to develop new courses.This position requires knowledge of various art styles and movements, principles and elements of design, multiple techniques and mediums, instructional methods, best practices in child, youth and adult learning so as to deliver high-quality not-for-credit in-person or online art classes.Accountabilities:The successful candidate will instruct in various courses that are part of the Community Arts & Artisanship Program, provide mentorship to Certificate Students, and evaluate on a complete/incomplete basis all students registered in each of the courses assigned. The candidate will also help to guide students on the art supplies needed, create all necessary artwork needed in demonstrations, provide feedback to the Community Arts & Artisanship Program on new possible directions for courses.Skills:

  • Highly effective communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to make compelling presentations.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in person and through online platforms.
  • Comfortable and productive working with both a high degree of independence and in collaborative settings.
  • Familiarity with organization and design of post-secondary art curricula and public education materials.
  • Evidence of commitment to the success of all learners.
  • Strong understanding of on-line learning platforms.
  • Sound knowledge of theories, practices and strategies pertaining to development and implementation of visual art courses at the post-secondary level.
Experience:
  • Utilizing learning management systems (e.g., Canvas) to develop and deliver online learning activities for post-secondary students. Experience working in university settings is highly valued.
Education:
  • BFA and relevant teaching experience
