Job Description

Duties:

  • Month-end close: Working with the accounting and box office team, the controller will be responsible for the completion of full cycle account accounting tasks, working papers, reconciliations and the timely and accurate completion of month end close.
  • Reporting: The controller is responsible for producing monthly departmental and the monthly financial statements including identifying budget variances for review by senior leadership.
  • Month End processes: In conjunction with the Director of Finance, this position will be responsible for creating month end processes and work instructions for the accounting department.
  • SAP Payroll Processing: Reconciles & checks payroll output to ensure all changes and information are processed in SAP. Reconciles payroll accounts monthly. Ensures all hours worked are processed accurately, following guidelines of multiple collective agreements. Process additional pay and/or retroactive pay due to salary changes. Assists with the payroll import, vacation/sick adjustments, and allocation of payroll to events.
  • Team & People Leadership: The role will mentor and train team members to ensure effective operations and customer service. Develops team members for growth and succession. This position will ensure pertinent information is communicated to team members which will affect them, their work or the work environment, in a timely relevant manner.
  • Assists the Director of Finance with the preparation of materials and documentation for reporting.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Degree in commerce with a major in finance or accounting.
  • Eight years experience in finance or accounting with 2+ years leading a team.
  • Considerable knowledge and understanding of a variety of finance functional areas including financial operations, financial reporting, planning and budgeting, internal and external working relationships, teams and people leadership, and SAP payroll processing.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with management, employees and union representatives.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement to make decisions in complex situations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing including the ability to prepare and present complex technical reports
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality while handling sensitive information.
