Job Description

The Canadian Light Source Inc. (CLSI) is the national synchrotron research facility on the University of Saskatchewan campus in Saskatoon. This facility produces high-intensity synchrotron light, millions of times brighter than sunlight, to explore the nature and structure of molecules and serves national and international users from academia, industry, and government institutions. The CLS facilitates scientific research aimed at finding solutions for global challenges in agriculture, health, advanced materials, and the environment.CLSI is now accepting applications to fill the position of a Controls Systems Analyst intern. This position will be a sixteen-month term, commencing in May 2022 and concluding August 2023. The Controls Analyst intern will work within the Controls & Instrumentation Development group, helping to provide software and hardware for control and feedback systems throughout the facility. This role will include design, implementation and maintenance of a variety of systems and will provide an excellent opportunity for a wide range of experience.Duties:

  • Assist senior analysts in the development, deployment and testing of software, hardware and instrumentation to meet the scientific goals of CLSI.
  • Support and maintain existing solutions for accelerator and scientific operations
  • Learn to apply standard procedures to solve problems and refer difficult or unusual problems to senior staff or supervisor for guidance.
  • Documents software in accordance with CLS standards and other relevant codes, standards and practices.
Qualifications:
  • Successful completion of the third year of a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related discipline with the expectation that you will return to continue your studies after the internship is completed.
  • Previous experience in technical environment would be considered an asset
  • Preference given to candidates familiar with standard UNIX software development tools.
  • Experience with C/C++ and or Python preferred
