Job Description

Primary Purpose: The Coordinator will be responsible for implementing and maintaining sustainable evaluation processes that are integrated into the academic programs and operations of the College. The Coordinator is responsible for developing instruments and systems to support the College in the assessment of student learning and College leaders in ongoing curricular quality enhancement activities. The goals are to ensure students attain the required pharmacy and nutrition professional educational outcomes, entry-to-practice competencies and levels of performance, and that there is a high level of satisfaction with the programs among all stakeholders. The Coordinator will also contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of academic programs-related components of the College Strategic Plan and the national accreditation processes for both programs.Nature of Work: Reporting to the Associate Dean Academic, and in collaboration with the Assistant Deans of the Divisions of Pharmacy, and Nutrition and Dietetics, the Coordinator works with a high level of independence, decision-making and accountability. The Coordinator is a problem-solver, who consults and builds good relationships with faculty, staff, students, practitioners, professional leaders, and assessment units and specialists within the University and in peer Canadian programs, in order to share and leverage information from these sources to advance the evaluation process. Support of various kinds to complement the Coordinator’s expertise, professional development opportunities and overall collegial support will be provided through the Gwenna Moss Centre for Teaching Effectiveness.Typical Duties or Accountabilities: Accountabilities:AssessmentAssist faculty to design instruments and processes for formative and summative assessment and ensure that student assessment methods measure what is expected from the design of a course or educational activity and that these are aligned with specific outcomes and competencies for the College’s professional programs.Develop and work with faculty to oversee pre, post and benchmark assessment activities, e.g. verbal communication, critical writing, critical thinking, and other general abilities skills, in addition to the acquiring of discipline-specific knowledge and skills.Conduct periodic analyses of selected student assessment processes and report findings internally within the College and externally to academic bodies or professional organizations as appropriate.Assist faculty and instructors with the development of a remediation program for individual studentsProgram EvaluationConduct ongoing curriculum evaluation activities to determine whether the College’s academic programs (design, content, integration, instructional delivery, support, assessment, faculty expertise) prepare graduates with the foundational knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop the competencies, judgment and confidence required for entry-to-practice in the disciplines of pharmacy and nutrition. This includes didactic courses as well as practice experiences.Assist in determining if the recruitment and admission processes are in place to attract and select the most appropriate applicants for the two programs. Assist in the facilitation of the training of assessors and of the standardization of assessment tools and practices related to the admission processDetermine if there are appropriate opportunities for faculty and academic staff to develop teaching and related skills according to changing curricula and assist in addressing any deficiencies in this regard.Strategic Planning and AccreditationRecognizing that ensuring our undergraduate programs align with future directions of our two professions is our first College priority, and contributing to innovation in programs and services is a major focus of the University and the College, the Coordinator will take a lead role in assisting the Dean with ongoing facilitation of the development, implementation, reporting, monitoring and assessment of actions outlined to achieve the goals of the College Strategic Plan.Support the accreditation processes of both professional programs, through contributing to the self-study preparations and site visits for the accreditation reviews of the Pharmacy program by the Canadian Council for Accreditation of Pharmacy Programs, and Dietitians of Canada for the Nutrition programs.Additional duties and ResponsibilitiesDevelop a user-friendly system which collects, analyzes and converts data into useful information and performance indicators and metrics, and prepare statistical and analytical reports and recommendations based on the data.Serve on College committees related to admissions, curricula, instructional development, strategic planning and accreditation.Work collaboratively with the Institutional Planning and Assessment unit, the Student Learning Services and the Gwenna Moss Centre for Teaching Effectiveness, other U of S units, and other universities to share best practices related to program evaluation.Seek funding opportunities when appropriate for initiatives related to the role of this position.Contract for services, such as data analysis, as required.Other duties as assigned.EducationThe successful candidate will have a relevant university degree, with a post-graduate degree preferred. Preference will be given to candidates who have formal training in learning theory and instructional design, measurement using various evaluation tools and techniques, and assessment theory and statistics. Training in pharmacy, nutrition or other health-care related field is not required but would be an asset. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.ExperienceA minimum of three years of experience with program evaluation, collection and interpretation of qualitative data, alignment of curricula/instructional design, learning theory with assessment methods and report writing, preferably in a University environment; trend analysis and development of recommendations that are implemented and have produced strategic results; development of metrics and benchmarks to produce information that provides senior leadership with direction to ensure programs are on track and successful.SkillsDemonstrated understanding of learning theory and program evaluation and assessment; research and analytical skills; designing metrics and benchmarks; ability to work independently and as part of a team on multiple projects and with competing priorities; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; effective time management and organizational skills; initiative and creativity; and computer literacy, including familiarity with software applications used in curriculum planning, assessment and evaluation of educational programs.Inquiries regarding this position can be directed to Yvonne Shevchuk at yvonne.shevchuk@usask.caDepartment: College of Pharmacy &NutritionStatus: PermanentEmployment Group: ASPAShift:Full Time Equivalent (FTE): 0.5Salary: The salary range, based on 1.0 FTE, is $64,107.00 - 100,169.00 per annum.
