Job Description

Educational Development SpecialistPrimary Purpose: The Gwenna Moss Centre for Teaching and Learning (GMCTL) provides professional development opportunities for departments, colleges, instructors and graduate students in teaching and professional skills, offers curriculum development and instructional design support for academic programs and courses, works to create an environment that enables good teaching and learning practices, and supports cross institutional initiatives in Indigenization and internationalization. This position provides strategic support to advance environmental education at USask through development and oversight of programming and support for advancing the University of Saskatchewan Sustainability Strategy, particularly related to advancing integration of sustainability in the curriculum.Nature of Work: Reporting to the Manager, Professional and Curriculum Development, and working in partnership with academic leaders and educators, the incumbent will work to identify needs, build relationships and provide program development support across the institution in support of the education strand of the USask Internationalization strategy. Additionally, the role will include supporting programs in curriculum development and leading professional learning about instruction and assessment.The Educational Developer for internationalization will be required to work with students, faculty, staff, and administrators across several academic and administrative units, including with faculty and staff in other post-secondary institutions and thus the ability to liaise effectively across cultures and structures is critical. Professionalism, tact, and attention to detail are required.Accountabilities:

  • Work collaboratively with wide variety of teaching and learning stakeholders
  • Facilitate course and program development work, in partnership with academic leaders, involving faculty and other stakeholders
  • Research, plan and design, in collaboration with team members, programming to support integration of internationalization in courses and programs
  • Conduct on-going assessments of projects in achievement of stated goals
  • Apply knowledge of, and experience with, program and course design, instructional approaches, and assessment and evaluation
  • Plan and deliver formal and informal faculty professional development and courses
  • Assist with the day-to-day operations of the GMCTL when necessary
  • Participate in committees and working groups that address internationalization, as appropriate
  • Actively engage in professional development and reflection
  • Develop and oversee learning about teaching for graduate students
  • Research and keep informed regarding innovations, trends, and professional development opportunities related to sustainability programming within the scope of the teaching and learning in higher education
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education: Graduate degree required or equivalent education and experience.Experience: 1-3 years of experience with supporting professional learning or faculty development in higher education or K-12 is required. Demonstrated understanding of teaching and learning is essential. Experience with one or more of internationalization, curriculum development, or inclusive education is desired.Skills:
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with academic leaders, faculty and administrators in higher education to develop and achieve shared goals, and manage many competing priorities
  • Proven initiative, organizational skills and ability to follow through on commitments
  • Ability to work comfortably with senior administrators, faculty members and academic staff to interpret department/college/institutional academic goals and priorities
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, and a high level of optimism, energy and empathy
  • Demonstrated understanding of teaching and learning
  • Capacity to effectively use technology to meet accountabilities and leverage technology to increase effectiveness and quality of work
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures
