A continued emphasis on the development of a representative workforce is one of Sask Polytech’s strategic priorities and, as an organization, we are making significant efforts to attract and retain Indigenous employees.This position has been designated for Indigenous person under the Saskatchewan Polytechnic’s employment equity program.Job Duties/Qualifications, Skills and Abilities(QSA)Job DutiesJob DutiesThe Indigenous Community Liaison will be directly responsible for the efficient planning, budgeting and implementation of the Community Awareness Plan to ensure the Indigenous community are aware of the Indigenous Student Success Strategy as well as Saskatchewan Polytechnic commitment to Indigenous student success. The position also develops, maintains and coordinates relationships and communications with Indigenous organizations that sponsor students to attend Saskatchewan Polytechnic.One main role is to ensure the community is aware of Indigenous Student Success Strategy and Saskatchewan Polytechnic’s commitment to Indigenous student success. The Indigenous Community Liaison plays a lead marketing and consulting role with various stakeholders within Saskatchewan Polytechnic, the Indigenous community, external agencies and businesses and the Saskatchewan Polytechnic External Indigenous Advisory committee.This position will take a leadership role in the development of a targeted Indigenous Student Success Strategy for Saskatchewan Polytechnic and work with Saskatchewan Polytechnic’s Business Development and Advancement division to grow an active Indigenous alumni group. Furthermore, this position will create and regularly update a financial information package regarding student sponsorship and funding for use by Saskatchewan Polytechnic personnel, students and funding agencies.This position requires the Indigenous Community Liaison to participate as a team member in the continued development of Indigenous Student Success Strategy and travel extensively throughout the province and, at times, outside the province.Travel will be required as this position covers the north and to provide workshop instruction and consulting services (related to the Indigenous Student Success Strategy) as required.QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCESpecific AccountabilitiesDutiesRequired Qualifications, Skills and Abilities (QSA)1. A degree in education, business, or closely related field 2. Three years recent, relevant experience (within the last 5 years).Equivalent combinations of education and experience will also be considered involving stakeholder coordination, public relations, research, negotiating and consulting. 3. Established professional credibility in the Indigenous community and educational circles. 4. Ability to direct ad hoc teams. 5. Demonstrated knowledge of Indigenous issues in Saskatchewan including contemporary social and cultural issues, and the relationship of these to the recruitment and support of Indigenous students. 6. Demonstrated experience working directly with Indigenous peoples in a learning environment. 7. Ability to develop and deliver presentations to diverse audiences, utilizing strong writing and public speaking skills. 8. Excellent communication skills including relationship building, diplomacy and negotiating 9. Training and/or experience in the use of common software packages, i.e. MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook). 10. Demonstrates valuing diversity. 11. A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel.Desired QSA
