Our leadership includes experienced founders with a passion for disrupting the status quo. Why not be part of building a major Canadian water treatment tech company while sharing and applying your experience and knowledgeThis permanent, full-time position is a unique opportunity grow and expand your career.In this role, you will work directly with our management team and scientific Mavens to deliver technical projects for our clients. You will be involved in the technical design and optimization aspects of water treatment projects focused on passive, semi-passive, and biological water treatment in the mining sector. These projects currently include constructed wetland treatment systems, gravel bed bioreactors, in situ treatment (pit lakes, mine pools), saturated rock fills, and improvements of active biological systems. These span the mine life cycle spectrum of greenfield feasibility assessments, operating mines, closure planning, and remediation of long-term legacy sites. You will have the opportunity to participate in the daily life of an innovative, fast-growing company working in the environmental field.Maven is in a beautifully awkward stage of having high revenue growth and a growing technical team while also building our mid-and senior-level management team to sustainably leap from our current size of ~20 into the 50 to 90-person team that matches the near-term market demand for our services. This gives you a unique opportunity for growth and ownership in our young, rapidly growing environmental consulting company.What you’ll be doing:

  • Contribute to water management and treatment strategies using a wide range of tools and techniques;
  • Develop proposals and workplans, and respond to RFPs;
  • Consult on water treatment projects from initial site studies to pilot- and demonstration-scale through to implementation at full-scale;
  • Optimize semi-passive water treatment systems (such as treatment wetlands, bioreactors, in situ treatment, etc) using internally developed tools and technologies;
  • Contribute to water management and treatment aspects of operating permits, closure reclamation plans, reclamation research plans, and other regulatory submissions for clients;
  • Involved in internal technology development programs through design and prototyping of mobile pilot-scale technology for treatment wetlands and semi-passive bioreactors;
  • Create, scale, and improve processes and operations;
  • Develop calculations and algorithms for biological and semi-passive water treatment systems;
  • Write technical descriptions of scientific and engineering processes geared for all types of readers;
  • Be involved in peer-mentorship and train junior team members. Our mentorship programs are different than typical top-down management structures.
Who we’re looking for:
  • You are intellectually curious and enjoy multidisciplinary problem-solving in a team-oriented setting;
  • You are a structured and logical thinker, capable of taking a system or process and breaking it down into its component parts;
  • You are highly analytical, have strong attention to detail and ability to tackle complex problems;
  • You take ownership over your work and outcomes;
  • Youre an effective communicator with strong organizational skills;
  • You embrace using our core concepts of Always Evolving, Be the Catalyst, and Celebrate Uniqueness to create value.
What will help you succeed.
  • 2-7 years experience associated with mine water management or treatment (responsibilities and compensation are linked to experience and value creation);
  • Minimum of a Bachelors Degree in a scientific field related to biogeochemistry, geochemistry, water quality modelling, management, or treatment. Combination of MSc, PhD, and experience is an asset;
  • Familiarity with semi-passive water treatment (treatment wetlands, in situ treatment, etc) or active bioreactors;
  • Experience with experimental design, data interpretation, and associated technical reporting associated with water treatment systems;
  • Proficiency with advanced spreadsheets and other data analysis and visualization methods including statistics or modelling software as appropriate to your area;
  • Exposure to project management principles and budgeting;
  • Eagerness to continuously learn and expand your knowledge and skillsets while also sharing information and mentoring others;
  • Ninja skills… in a start-up we all wear many hats and are flexible in our day to day roles. Contribute to the team’s success through your additional passions, such as graphic design, app programming, social media engagement, party planning, non-technical writing, and communication… we could go on, but you’re a fast learner, so you get the idea. Put your ideas in your application
