A continued emphasis on the development of a representative workforce is one of Sask Polytech’s strategic priorities and, as an organization, we are making significant efforts to attract and retain Indigenous employees.Job Duties/Qualifications, Skills and Abilities(QSA)Job DutiesJob DutiesReporting to the Manager of International Education (Student Engagement), this position will take the lead role in Saskatchewan Polytechnic’s international student advising. With student success as the primary focus, this position will liaise with the Registrar’s Office, Student Services, academic divisions and community organizations in providing ongoing advising and support to current and occasionally, to potential Saskatchewan Polytechnic international students. Unique to this role, is the need to advise students on matters related to immigration status.This position is expected to obtain Registered International Student Immigration Advising (RISIA) or Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) designation at the employer’s expense.

  • Act as international student advisor and provide support for academic success and successful integration into Canadian society. This will include advice on program/course selection, immigration information, orientation, housing, airport pick-up and other advising/support as required.
  • Provide specific immigration advice to international students in terms of study permits, work permits, and the Immigrant Refugees Protection Act (IRPA) and the Immigrant Refugees and Protection Regulations (IRPR) as it relates to international students.
  • Respond to day to day inquiries and phone calls from international students.
  • Some occasional international and/or national travel may be required.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCESpecific AccountabilitiesDutiesRequired Qualifications, Skills and Abilities (QSA)1. A Bachelor’s degree in International Studies, Social Sciences, Education, Social Work, Commerce or equivalent education and work experience.2. Minimum two years recent (within last five years) experience in student advising or recruitment.3. Exception Knowledge of Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) policies and procedures, including information pertaining to student visas, work permits and immigration4. Knowledge of Saskatchewan’s post-secondary, secondary and adult education systems.5. Knowledge of Saskatchewan Polytech program offerings and admission process pertaining to international students.6. Exceptional written and oral communication, intercultural and interpersonal skills.7.Ability to understand, interpret, and apply regulations, principles, practices, policies and procedures to improve work processes and systems.8. Excellent written and verbal skills (including presentation and public speaking with large audiences).9. Understanding and knowledge of Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy regulations and ability to manage confidential and sensitive information.10. Ability to work co-operatively within established policies and procedures with minimal supervision.11. Possess and maintain a valid passport and Class 5 driver’s license.12. Ability to successfully complete training leading to Regulated International Student Immigration Advisor (RISIA) designation or Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) designation.13.
