The life of a SARCAN Lead Hand.As a Lead Hand, you will be responsible for:
  • Supervising staff on the plant floor, ensuring proper coverage of workstations and employee compliance with SARCAN policies and procedures and OH amp;S guidelines and regulations. Training and orientating new production employees and delivering regular updates to existing employees. Providing input into staff evaluations and may participate in staff evaluation meetings conducted by the Processing Manager.
  • Handling operational concerns (mechanical, staff, processing flows) in a timely manner.
  • Maintaining equipment and logs for maintenance, reporting repairs where necessary.
  • Reporting maintenance and repairs needed on semi-trailers
  • Ensuring that all Store supplies inventories are maintained
  • Coordinating the switching of yard trailers as required
  • Operating all plant equipment (e.g. forklift, conveyors, balers, crushers, etc.) as required.
  • Assisting Foreperson with shipping and receiving duties (e.g. loading salvage, data entry, receiving Stores, etc.)
  • Assuming the duties of the Processing Foreperson in the Foreperson’s absence
  • Attending training and workshops as required
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
What are the skills you must have to perform this role To be successful as a Lead Hand at SARCAN, you will need:
  • Three (3) to four (4) years’ experience in an industrial setting, most recently in a supervisory role. Grade 12 is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of OH amp;S regulations in an industrial setting
  • Solid understanding of the operation and maintenance of production equipment
  • Solid working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office
  • A strong degree of professionalism, while remaining highly personable and approachable in the company of people of all abilities, cultures, and backgrounds
  • To exhibit high ethical conduct, acting with integrity, sensitivity, and confidentiality
  • To be committed to teamwork and meeting team goals
  • Flexibility and the willingness to change priorities and deadlines
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • To provide a satisfactory criminal record check as a condition of employment
