Lead, Safety ProgramsSafety Resources is the University of Saskatchewan’s health, safety, and environmental management department. Safety Resource’s provides occupational health and safety, research safety management, and hazardous waste management services for USask students, staff, and faculty.Primary Purpose: The Lead, Safety Programs leads a team of professionals to provide occupational health and safety compliance and consultation services to the university community.In conjunction with the Manager, Safety Resources, the successful candidate will be responsible for the oversight and execution of all occupational health and safety programming including safety committees, incident reporting including incident management and investigation, Worker’s Compensation Board processes, hearing loss prevention, construction and trades safety, contractor safety management, asbestos safety, ergonomics, industrial hygiene, and all related safety and compliance programming. The Lead, Safety Programs will act as a backup to the Manager, Safety Resources for departmental oversight, as needed.The Lead, Safety Programs will be responsible for the delivery of high quality and timely client service to develop safety management systems, conduct and oversee workplace/worksite inspections, facilitate incident investigations, and provide recommendations for corrective actions for regulatory compliance and improvement in USask safety throughout all university operations.Nature of Work: Reporting to the Manager, Safety Resources, the Lead, Safety Programs provides health and safety leadership according to regulations and best practices.The position requires both oversight and provision of client service including consultation, providing advice, and process development in support of client needs. Effective time management and priority setting skills are critical as this position works in a relatively unstructured environment. The Lead, Safety Programs requires excellent relationship development and management, including the ability to listen and understand client business needs.The Lead, Safety Programs will lead a team of safety professionals and is responsible for the management of recruitment, performance management, professional development, and other employment related items.The Lead, Safety Programs will implement safety systems and an interdependent safety culture using a collaborative approach with colleges, departments, and units.Confidentiality and discretion is required as this position is privy to some confidential and sensitive information.This position could work in potentially hazardous environments and may be asked to respond to and assists with emergencies during regular work hours and after-hours, if called upon.Accountabilities:
