Jansen will add diversity and a Canadian presence to BHP’s global portfolio. Jansen’s large resource endowment provides the opportunity to develop it in stages, with anticipated initial capacity of 4.35 Mtpa. The BHP Board has recently sanctioned Jansen Project (Stage 1), with a US $5.7 billion investment. The project is now entering the construction phase, with the first potash expected in 2027.PurposeReporting to the Practice Lead Sustainability & Innovation, the Manager Studies provides leadership and direction for the project life cycle of investments to deliver the approved business objectives through an optimized project investment case, and to identify and manage project related risk, scope, cost, and schedule through project development, through excellence in functional integration. Studies in this portfolio will be focused on those related to creating Social Value through BHP investment, which includes investments to enable achieving our decarbonization goals.About the RoleIn this role, you will:

  • Lead study scoping and planning processes to deliver the business objectives, and apply appropriate change management processes throughout lifecycle of the investment.
  • Manage the study schedule, cost and scope to deliver studies for the investment lifecycle, for a major capital project and/or commercial commitment investment
  • Manage project development in compliance with both internal and external governance processes and BHP Our Requirements performance requirements
  • Establish, coordinate implementation of, and execute project development systems & processes that ensure all valid investment alternatives are identified and optimized to realize maximum value to the business, applying financial and non-quantifiable decision criteria.
  • Capture and evaluate lessons learned from development & delivery of investments for incorporation into continuous improvement initiatives, including industry leading practice and innovations
  • Develop, manage, and execute quality management plans to assure effective management of the study plan; ensure that deviations from the study plan are adequately managed, communicated and rectified
  • Work with teams to identify and remove barriers and blockages to allow project teams/functions to own and execute decisions and outcomes across the lifecycle
  • Lead internal stakeholder engagement and ensure stakeholders are aligned throughout the course of the study through timely communication
  • Engage with external stakeholders and parties associated with potential investments, seeking win-win solutions
Work LocationDowntown, Saskatoon; 40 hours per week, parking is provided on-site.About You
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in a relevant discipline
  • 7-10 years of professional experience in commercial or project-based background, with experience in Major Capital Studies or Commercial Investments
  • Sound knowledge of Saskatchewan stakeholder landscape, alongside multidiscipline engineering or industry standard practice
  • Demonstrates a strategic mindset, able to navigate complex commercial and stakeholder relationships at various levels
  • Strong communication, influencing and relationship building skills
