Job Description

The Mechanical Supervisor is responsible for coordinating the delivery of services provided and the employees assigned to the division. The Supervisor will work independently and in small team environments repairing and servicing various types of rail equipment. The work will take place in all weather conditions in an environment that operates 24/7, 365 days per year. The Supervisor will be required to be available to respond to emergency situations.Roles and ResponsibilitiesPlanningamp; Service DeliveryDevelops and implements plans to grow new and existing service and repair customers from both an external and internal basisManages relationships with new and existing customers, complimentary service providers, contractors, shippers, and other key industry contactsGuides operations of the division coordinating with service users and providersEstablishes work schedules and the mobilization of equipment and peopleEnsure equipment, tools, and materials are kept to appropriate standards and arrange for any necessary maintenance and repairs as necessary; ensure the services provided are aligned with the division #39;s visionProvides quality customer and employee relations, interfaces with Cando Mechanical employees Leadershipamp; Employee DevelopmentBuilds and maintains positive and healthy relationships and teams within the divisionPromotes and guides others to understand delivery of effective services and achievement of objectives and their interrelationshipConducts daily safety huddles with shop employees including job hazard analysis; ensures safety policies and procedures are understood and adhered toCreates and maintains a positive safety culture and upholds the principles of a positive safety cultureEnsures for the delivery of training and development initiatives related to the divisionSupervision and AdministrationSupervises operations and related assigned activities ensuring the necessary people, equipment, tools, and other resources are available to effectively provide servicesProvides supervision within the shop and field environment including assigning work, providing hands-on activity and teaching, and monitoring of workloads and skill levelsCoordinates the implementation and development of safety management systems (SMS), policies and practices within the divisionManages division human resources including participating in hiring, coaching and leading activities, participates in daily operations, monitors payroll and WCB functions, and manages purchasing for the departmentInvolves employees in decision making regarding project planning, and policy issuesSkills, Knowledge and Abilities Demonstrates initiative to independently plan, organize, and prioritize workload leading to successful implementation of projects in a constantly changing dynamic environmentDemonstrates leadership including establishing focus, providing motivational support, fostering teamwork, and empowering othersWorking knowledge of legislation, regulations, and best practices relevant to shop services and employee relationsKnowledge or willingness to learn AAR/ FRA/ TC certification procedures and practicesUnderstanding of materials purchasing, inventory management, and basic accounting practicesAbility to carry out production planning and meet Workplace Safetyamp; Health and Worker #39;s Compensation standardsGeneral computer skills with ability to learn new processesAwareness of Lean management principles and concepts and 5SMust be able to work under pressure and adapt to change.Education and ExperienceFive (5) years experience in a progressive leadership and supervisory position preferred or proven leadership skills.Experience working in heavy industrial environments and with similar equipmentStrong mechanical aptitudeNote: This description is not intended to limit the assignment of work or be construed as a complete list of the many duties to be performed by the incumbent.
