Job Description

Micro-credential Marketing & Communications OfficerPrimary Purpose:Micro-credentials are an exciting new initiative at the University of Saskatchewan being led out of the Provost’s Office. The primary purpose of this position is to support the development of marketing strategy, both internal and external, related to micro-credentials at USask. The Marketing & Communications Officer will work closely with the Micro-credential Program Coordinator to identify and fulfill the communications needs of this emerging initiative, helping to establish a brand that aligns with University of Saskatchewan reputational standard and brand guidelines. Additionally, the incumbent will contribute to ensuring the quality and relevance of newly developed micro-credentials, by working with the Micro-credential Program Coordinator to analyze the needs of employer and community partners, gather data related to emerging skills gaps, and conduct market research in partnership with academic units.This position reports to the Micro-credential Program Coordinator. This position has no direct reports.Nature of Work:This work requires creativity, close attention to detail and quality, and collaboration with a dynamic team focused on the development of the USask micro-credential strategy and of individual micro-credentials themselves. The ability to develop and manage projects in alignment with institutional goals and objectives is essential.Accountabilities:Marketing and Communications

  • Work with the micro-credential team and coordinate with the TLSE Service Team to design and develop an internal communications strategy for micro-credentials.
  • Developing and distributing effective messages
  • Helping to design polished and effective documents as required (one pagers, reports, info-graphics, etc.)
  • Create an adaptable marketing plan for individual micro-credentials, including step by step guides for academic partners, templates, rationale, etc.
  • Support the development of an external marketing and communications strategy for micro-credentials that aligns with University of Saskatchewan branding. This may include:
  • Website design – helping determine, in coordination with the TLSE Service Team, where micro-credential content should be placed, creating and managing content, and ensuring that it is kept up to date.
  • Identifying best practice in marketing strategy related to non-credit programming for our target audiences, and utilizing appropriate marketing tools (email marketing campaigns, social media posts, digital advertising, etc.) as appropriate.
  • Identifying creative ways to reach our target audiences while maintaining the reputational standard of USask and aligning with our institutional brand
  • Developing new initiatives (e.g., videos, social media channels, new resources) that align with the defined strategy.
Market Research and Environmental Scans
  • Collect, organize and analyze data to assist in identifying areas of interest for new micro-credentials
  • Complete regular environmental scans of micro-credentials at comparable universities
  • Submit regular updates on metrics and contribute to reporting on the effectiveness of our marketing strategies
General Administration
  • Work closely with the Micro-credential Program Coordinator to provide administrative support to academic partners in developing and executing a micro-credential
  • Ensure work is completed within established deadlines by defining goals, aligning all required resources, effectively setting work priorities, and collaborating with others as needed.
  • Undertakes other activities, as may be delegated from time to time, in support of the micro-credential team’s goals and priorities.
Education:An undergraduate degree is required. Coursework or a major in marketing, communications or English would be considered an asset. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.Experience:Experience working in a fast-paced environment with multiple demands would be an asset. Experience with marketing strategy development, graphic design software of any kind (InDesign, Canva, etc), and website design is preferred.Skills:
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and oral, with an ability to communicate in an effective way to a variety of audiences.

  • Ability to structure, organize and build initiatives, and effectively plan and manage multiple projects with attention to detail.

  • Proficiency in contemporary computer applications (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Office, Canva) and knowledge of social media and web platforms.
