Job Description

The Payroll Manager is responsible for ensuring that all payroll activities are completed as efficiently as possible while ensuring accuracy and timeliness of payment. The role provides hands-on leadership to the payroll function and is familiar with all of the various processes, payroll groups, etc. A high level of attention to detail and a strong adherence to protecting confidential information is required.*Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities*

  • Prepare, enter and process payroll for hourly, salary and piecework employees.
  • Review timesheets and payroll documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Assist in the processing of new hires, employee terminations and employee status changes.
  • Assist in the set-up and maintenance of the employee payroll records.
  • Prepare payroll summaries, journal entries, source deduction remittances, various reconciliations and government and 3rd party payments.
  • Process Records of Employment.
  • Prepare and submit year-end reporting and filings, including T4’s, T2200’s and related remittances.
  • Maintain detailed records and documentation of payroll functions for audit purposes, in accordance with statutory requirements.
  • Respond to all payroll and benefits inquiries.
  • Provide audit support to internal and external auditors.
  • Identify process inefficiencies, issues, or concerns and assist in process improvement implementation.
  • Other duties as required.
Desired Qualifications and Education
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) or Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) is preferred, or extensive experience in payroll.
  • Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with multi-province payroll.
  • Understanding of accounting principals.
  • High attention to detail to ensure accuracy is required.
  • High level of personal integrity and ethical standards.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of payroll experience required, with a preference with leadership experience.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team setting.
  • Fluent in English, with ability to speak and write is required. French skills considered an asset.
