Jansen will add diversity and a Canadian presence to BHP’s global portfolio. Jansen’s large resource endowment provides the opportunity to develop it in stages, with anticipated initial capacity of 4.35 Mtpa. The BHP Board has recently sanctioned Jansen Project (Stage 1), with a US $5.7 billion investment. The project is now entering the construction phase, with the first potash expected in 2027.PurposeThinking about your next career move Then think big! BHP is looking for a talented Principal Innovation Extraction to provide technical expertise in the innovation and use of technology in processing and refining.About the RoleIn this role, you will:

  • Identify technologies and equipment, apply relevant test work data, and develop a basis of design for process plant design and optimization with consideration to health, safety and environment
  • Analyze and model data to draw out insights and solutions that address hypotheses and business challenges
  • Utilize appropriate simulation packages to create mass and energy balances, and validate process simulation outputs to optimize the representations of real operational processes
  • Gain support for and negotiates outcomes that achieve mutually beneficial goals
  • Define value drivers and determine the boundaries of an opportunity to determine if it is worth further investment
  • Make evidence-based and strategic decisions in alignment with longer term business objectives
  • Provide support to early-stage studies to enable the inclusion of innovation in studies and projects
  • Know our customer and be obsessed with meeting their needs
  • Engage the capabilities of the entire organization

Work LocationDowntown, Saskatoon office. 40 hours per week. Hybrid working (flexible, shared workstations and a combination of office and work from home) is standard for BHP.About You
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining, Process, or Chemical Engineering, or related discipline
  • Demonstrated technical capability and operational experience in potash mining and/or potash mineral processing
  • Skilled in process/equipment development and evaluation
  • Proven experience with innovation processes and engaging with innovation ecosystem
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with an aptitude for stakeholder engagement
