Jansen will add diversity and a Canadian presence to BHP’s global portfolio. Jansen’s large resource endowment provides the opportunity to develop it in stages, with anticipated initial capacity of 4.35 Mtpa. The BHP Board has recently sanctioned Jansen Project (Stage 1), with a US $5.7 billion investment. The project is now entering the construction phase, with the first potash expected in 2027.PurposeThe Principal Operation Readiness provides leadership in the provision of Project Management Services to ensure that the people, systems, and processes – from Mine to Port – are ready for commissioning and operation at handover. They support Line Leaders in execution of the Operations Readiness plan, ensuring that the future Operation is positioned to maximize value to BHP.About the RoleIn this role, you will:

  • Lead the structuring and controlling of the Operations Readiness (OR) scope, develop predictable cost estimates, and achievable plans and schedules; monitor budgets, commitments, and actual costs; manage changes, measure progress and reporting/analyzing forecasts to influence on-time and on-budget delivery of the OR objectives
  • Develop operational readiness plans/schedules and deliverables, evaluate systems/procedures for compliance with standards and define/support training/handover requirements to efficiently prepare the asset for operations
  • Provide training and functional support to OR Execution Management Team and guidance to external contractors and consultants on OR Project Management/Services processes
  • Apply an understanding of the operation’s systems, activities, risk handover and key processes, terminology, and workflow
  • Implement and lead governance/assurance practices and Management of Change procedures to control value outcomes across the OR scope
  • Identify and assess risks, make risk informed decisions, use BHPs risk management framework, and support a risk aware culture to drive safe and productive performance outcomes
  • Source information, plan and conduct analyses to support evidence-based decision making
  • Identify, engage, and manage a range of diverse internal and external stakeholders
  • Plan, track the delivery of and manage a project to generate value and drive the achievement of project outcomes

  • Tertiary qualifications in Business (Finance or Accounting Major), Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or related discipline
  • Demonstrates an inquisitive mindset, with the ability to ask thoughtful questions and respectfully challenge the process
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with an aptitude for influencing others in the pursuit of a desired outcome
Recommended
  • Certification from AACE and/or PMI, or other (P6 Certification) related project management certification
  • Applicable experience in the mining industry, from an operational perspective, is an added advantage
Pivotal Experiences for the Role
  • Demonstrated involvement in a project environment focused on Project Services
  • Strong background of Owners Team or Contractor capital projects team positions
  • Proven experience with Project Services processes, systems, and tools
  • Ability to work within a matrix organization
