That’s why we say… if it’s in the electrical power system, Shermco does it.Backed by Gryphon Investors, a leading private equity firm focused on profitably growing and competitively enhancing middle-market companies in partnership with experienced management, Shermco is poised for the next decade and beyond.PROJECT MANAGERReporting to the Electrical Operations Manager in Saskatchewan, the Project Manager will be responsible for leading the electrical distribution maintenance team and the overall project management of Shermco operations at the BHP Jansen site. The Project Manager will work closely with the Electrical Operations Manager, Electrical Services Manager, site Electrical Supervisors, site Electrical Planner/Scheduler and other leadership personnel within the Saskatchewan Operations team. The Project Manager will be focused on the continued growth of Shermco’s services on (and as a result off) the BHP Jansen site, fostering further long-term and effective relationships with BHP as a Shermco key client and aligning with Shermco’s long-term growth plans.The overall success of the above noted focus will be the results of the Project Manager ensuring all activities (maintenance, construction, outages etc.) are carried out and completed safely, on time and on budget in accordance with Shermco and BHP standards, specifications and expectations.The Project Manager will spend the majority of their time working on the BHP Jansen site, however, may also be required to work at a Shermco corporate office on occasion for team or corporate meetings or training.Job Responsibilities:Leadership

  • Provide leadership, guidance, mentorship and direction to site Electrical Supervisors, site Electrical Planner/Scheduler and site HV Electricians and all other staff who may report to site, ensuring daily operational objectives are being achieved.
  • Promote an inclusive, positive, and respectful work environment and implement an “open door policy” to allow staff to bring concerns forward in a productive manner.
  • Continue to build and promote a team-oriented environment; foster effective, two-way, and open communication.
  • Continue to build, foster, and maintain a mind-set and culture of continuous and never-ending improvement.
  • Continue to build a culture of safety and ensure all staff view safety as a behaviour and a mindset, not just policies and procedures.
  • Ensure all staff are aware of, and abide by, company policies, procedures, and guidelines, as well as site-specific policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Schedule regular “Time in Field” with work force and drive performance with the use of the BHP Field Leadership program and “Shermco Management By Walking Around” program. Be present and ensure quality interactions with teams and personnel.
Project Management
  • Manage and oversee the 24/7 - 365 electrical distribution maintenance work package and team. Specifically, collaborate with the site Electrical Supervisors and site Electrical Planner/Scheduler to insure 1SAP work orders are created and completed with safety as the number one priority followed by schedule to insure Shermco’s safety performance and 1SAP performance meet and exceed KPI targets.
  • Manage and oversee all other Shermco site work scopes and resources. Specifically, work with appointed scope leads to insure additional work scopes are completed with safety as the number one priority followed by schedule to insure scope milestones are achieved.
  • Manage and oversee site specific/project procurement in consultation with both site Electrical Planner/Scheduler and Electrical Service Manager in accordance with Shermco purchasing procedures and procurement limits of authority.
  • Manage and oversee all Shermco sub-contractors required for all Shermco site scopes of work.
  • Regularly attend site specific, scope specific and client meetings as required by BHP.
  • In close and frequent consultation, the Project Manager will work with the Electrical Operations Manager and Electrical Services Manager on the following key business items related to all scopes of work at BHP Jansen:
    • Safety & Training
    • Budget & Finance
    • Schedule & Manpower
    • Tools, Equipment & Assets
  • Continue to ensure all work is carried out with safety and quality first and front of mind and respected by all staff.
  • Lead site specific project/work scope estimating/bidding in close consultation with Electrical Operations Manager and Electrical Services Manager and/or designate.
  • Provide on-going performance feedback of dedicated site team and additional resources scheduled for site to the Electrical Operations Manager. Assist with formal staff reviews as requested by the Electrical Operations Manager.
  • Evaluate projects and work scopes upon completion to identify what worked well and what could be improved on the next project or work scope. Present lessons learned to Electrical Operations Manager and Electrical Services Manager and project or work scope lead team members.
  • Perform additional assignments as per Electrical Operations Manager direction.
Sales
  • Foster positive, productive and long-term business relationships with representatives of BHP.
  • Foster positive, productive and long-term business relationships with representatives of other site contractors that present revenue opportunities at the BHP Jansen site or elsewhere.
  • Establish opportunities to grow the business by promoting Shermco services to new and existing clients on the BHP Jansen site.
Shift & Logistics:
  • Shift is Monday to Friday (5 days on 2 days off) at 10-hour day (50-hour work week).
  • Camp accommodations provided and required unless residence is considered local (within 60 km’s) to the BHP Jansen site.
  • 24/7 availability via cell phone will be required.
  • Travel to site on first day of shift and travel from site on last day shift will be required.
  • Overtime and non-regular working hours are required for this position.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent, supplemented by completion of a post-secondary trade or diploma in an Electrical or other Electrical Engineering Technology or other relevant program (from a recognized Canadian Educational Institute or foreign equivalent).
  • PMP designation considered an asset.
  • At least 10 or more years of construction and/or maintenance experience, including field experience.
  • 5 years of direct work experience in construction and/or maintenance project management.
  • Superior knowledge of the electrical construction and maintenance trade, including all applicable codes, specifications, industry, and provincial regulations.
  • Superior knowledge of medium voltage and high voltage systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, drawings, and plans.
  • A solid understanding of all electrical construction and maintenance techniques.
  • A solid understanding of mining and industrial construction.
  • Knowledge of OH&S regulations and other safety-related legislation and work practices.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft computer software (e.g. Excel, Word, etc.) and email.
  • MS Project experience considered an asset.

  • Superb creation and facilitation of meetings, feedback sessions, and briefings in order to create consensus among stakeholders.
  • Able to effectively communicate with all types of staff, including labourers, trades, technical, professional, management and senior or executive management.
  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with business units, corporate departments, key managers, and other stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise necessary cost control measures.
  • First Aid skills and/or certificates are considered asset.
  • Flexibility to adjust to shifting priorities and deadlines.
