Ensure the work location functions efficiently by performing a variety of duties using a wide range of procedures when conducting field experiments and collecting and analyzing data. The Research Associate will execute on responsibilities to develop high yielding, disease resistant canola, corn and soybean. Existing experience in a plant breeding organization is an asset. Equipment and pesticide application experience is a requirement. Conducts experiments, to completion, according to specific procedures, exercising independent judgment and discretion as appropriate at research sites across SK.Responsibilities – What you will do:

  • Collects, organizes and summarizes results of experiments, noting problem areas, while recommending actions to be taken within standard procedures.
  • Establish and builds effective relationships with land co-operators to conduct research testing.
  • Participates in or leads all pre-season, in-season and post season activities at research sites and on research equipment.
  • May hire, organize and supervise work of Research Assistants and/or temporary employees ensuring work is performed in safe and efficient manner.
  • Leads or assists with equipment preparation, calibration, troubleshooting and repairing for safe and efficient operation.
  • Pesticide application and technical knowledge on pest identification and appropriate corrective action.
  • Determine how to troubleshoot equipment failures and quickly remedy problem in the field.
  • Make daily decisions on prioritizing site scouting for pests and data collection activities to maximize plot quality and timely collection of data.
  • Be able to see big picture and plan ahead to manage agronomic priorities at multiple field sites with competing needs to generate high quality data.

  • Appropriate agricultural degree with 2 – 4 years’ experiencein related field or equivalent level of relevant education and experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, computer program/IT systems proficiency.
  • Pesticide Applicators License and Class 1A license endorsement.
  • Will be required to do physical lifting and work in varying ergonomic environments and travel throughout SK on a daily basis during the agriculture season.
