Job Description

Nuseed is a wholly owned subsidiary of Nufarm Limited (AUX: NUF).Based in our Sasktaoon, SK office, Nuseed has an exciting opportunity for a Research Associate – Breed Operations. This role will coordinate and lead seed inventory management and movement to ensure a timely and successful seeding and harvest in North America and contra season. This position will be a part of the R&D team based in Saskatoon and will also collaborate with plant breeders at the Australia Innovation Centre and molecular scientists at the West Sacramento Innovation Centre coordinating seed movement for chambers, lab and field activities. The Research Associate – Breeding Operations will also assist breeders with nursery and greenhouse projects to increase and maintain seed inventory for future planting.The Opportunity:Implementing and maintaining a unique ID system for inventory management of Nuseed canola and carinata breeding programs.Maintaining an updated and well-organized inventory system both digitally and physically.Organizing seed sources, designs, supplies and equipment for trial seed set up, ensuring timely seeding in NA and Chile.Work with breeders to design nurseries and greenhouse projects, arrange field visits for data collection requirements and seed increases to maintain inventories.Lead and train operation of envelope printer, seed counters and seed cleaners.Actively involved with importing and exporting seed procedures including obtaining Import permits from CFIA and interpreting and adhering to CFIA Seed Import Regulations.Shipping and receiving seed both domestically and internationally while adhering to CFIA export regulations and other country’s import regulations, particularly Chile and Australia.Constantly keeping up to date with current knowledge and technologies around hybrid breeding, small plot research equipment and seed handling techniques.Creating and updating protocols and SOPs for seed management and preparation.Interaction with Australian breeding team to keep up-to-date with timelines of seed movement in preparation for the North American trials and contra season nurseries.Travel to various trial locations in Canada and US for site visit and training.Ensure compliance with safety and environmental protocols pertaining to facility activities, such as use of proper PPE in laboratories and growth chambers.Provide input to safety committee and local team to help continually improve safety protocols and procedures.Role will require standing for prolonged periods of time and the ability to lift up to 60 lbs.Candidate must have and maintain a valid drivers license.Do you have a bachelors degree in Crop Science, Agronomy or a related field The ideal candidate will have 5 years of experience in a research setting, including greenhouses, yield trials and preparing seed for planting.
